Great to be at the launch of the National Energy System Operator today at the House of Commons and to hear more about the ambition for a joined up approach to energy planning and delivering Net Zero. This is SO important! Many in the energy industry have been calling for this for a long time so great to see it officially launched. Hydrogen UK is looking forward to working closely with NESO over the coming months and years to ensure that hydrogen can be unlocked at scale and play the role that it will need to play to deliver net zero and energy security!

Hydrogen Week UK returns in 2025 for its third year, highlighting Hydrogen's critical role in achieving the UK's Net Zero Goals. Scheduled from 24th February to 2nd March 2025, the week promises to be the most ambitious yet, engaging schools, universities, SMEs, community groups, and larger organisations. Spearheaded by the North West Hydrogen Alliance (NWHA and supported by Hydrogen UK, Hydrogen Week 2025 will unite hydrogen regions across the UK, with other leading partners. Members are invited to take part by hosting hydrogen-themed events, activities, and campaigns. Building on the success of 2024, which included workshops, VR demos, and a hydrogen-powered rocket launch, 2025 aims to foster even more collaboration to engage a wider audience through fostering new collaborations across the entire hydrogen ecosystem. A series of events and activities are planned in the run-up to Hydrogen Week 2025, including a webinar on Tuesday 12th November 2024, which will bring together the regional clusters to discuss their plans for 2025 and what the new government can do to support hydrogen collaboration. To get involved contact hydrogenweek@fontcomms.com. #H2Week. Feel free to share this post to spread the word about Hydrogen Week 2025.

Hydrogen UK welcomes today’s announcement affirming the Government’s commitment to supporting clean energy industries in Scotland. Scotland will play a central role in the UK’s hydrogen economy and today’s news highlights the importance of GB Energy coordinating closely with Scottish Government bodies. The industry-led skills passport will not only help workers in the oil and gas industries transition to new employment in hydrogen and other sectors, but also help provide the skills the UK needs to reach Net Zero.

Great to see our members involved in this project that showcases the versatility of hydrogen power units, and how they are providing low-carbon power to energy intensive data centres.
Today marks an important step on our sustainability journey as we announce a pioneering green hydrogen pilot project with ESB that will see our data centre power control and administration building in Dublin be powered by zero emissions green hydrogen power. The landmark pilot project is the first time that Hydrogen Fuel Cells will be used to provide electricity to a Microsoft data centre in Europe, supplying up to 250kW of clean energy to Microsoft’s Dublin campus over an eight-week period. The groundbreaking pilot is part of a series planned by ESB in 2024 and 2025 to showcase the versatility of hydrogen fuel cell technology in different power applications. The pilot is the first step in demonstrating the potential impact that hydrogen energy can have in helping to decarbonise the strategically important data centre sector in Ireland.
