About us
ICMM's vision is a safe, just and sustainable world enabled by responsibly produced minerals and metals. Each of our company members – which together account for one-third of the global mining and metals industry – commits to implementing our Mining Principles as a condition of membership. These principles are neither static nor do they represent the ceiling of our ambition. We are always challenging ourselves to go ever further in setting the highest of standards for responsible mining, and delivery. We promise to work collaboratively with associations and other stakeholders to enhance the contribution of mining and metals to sustainable development. Our commitment to working with others does not stop at our industry’s boundaries. We were founded on a spirit of open engagement, and we continue to champion diversity of opinions today to deliver bold leadership for our wider industry and non-resources sectors alike.

Durable. Recoverable. Reusable. Metals are at the heart of a #CircularEconomy.🔁 To get to net zero by 2050, we need around 3 billion tonnes of metals and minerals – the equivalent of 300,000 Eiffel Towers – with even more required for constructing sustainable cities, industries and infrastructure. Adopting circular principles is essential to supplying the world’s demand in a sustainable way. But for materials to be truly circular, both the ways they are produced and consumed must embrace circularity. Our industry is experienced at reducing waste and innovating to increase use of renewable energy and manage water wisely.💡Find out how: https://lnkd.in/e2hhAP5B

The world is full of beautiful landscapes that are under threat – and once lost, they may be gone forever. From the Atacama Desert to the Andes Mountains, Chile has plenty of natural beauty. Find out how CODELCO CHILE and Antofagasta Minerals are protecting vital areas for migratory birds and using innovative ‘biorolls’ to conserve areas of outstanding natural beauty in Chile. https://lnkd.in/eFm2zHYA

Earlier this year, ICMM was invited by the UN Secretary General to provide our expert perspective on a set of voluntary principles to guide the responsible development of critical mineral value chains. These Principles and supporting recommendations have been published by the UN today - read our statement here: https://lnkd.in/eJ2WZeNA

Gender inequity in the mining sector is a challenge, with women often having less access to jobs and benefits. This review, led by the IFC - International Finance Corporation highlights a critical gap – that there is a lack of gender-specific data needed to drive meaningful change. While many companies are focusing on compliance, others are stepping up with voluntary gender reporting, guided by frameworks like our Social and Economic Reporting Framework. Mining companies striving for sustainable business practices recognise that gender equity is not just a moral imperative; it’s also good for business. Inclusive workplaces attract a stronger workforce, drive better performance, and improve community relations. A global push for better gender data is key to advancing these efforts. We’re proud to have played a role in this important work, contributing to the broader movement towards gender equity in the mining industry. Learn more here:
