We support people in our community who are affected by life-limiting illness.

About us

Katharine House is located 4 miles south of Banbury and lies on the borders of Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire. The hospice palliative care service supports those people with life-threatening illnesses whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment. The aim is to maintain quality of life and for patients to remain in their own homes where this is possible or requested. Patients can be referred immediately after diagnosis or at a later stage in the illness. The hospice services run alongside other services and staff work closely with general practitioners and other health professionals. The hospice team comprises a medical team led by a Consultant in Palliative Medicine, a nursing team with specialist palliative care qualifications, other health professionals including physiotherapists, counsellors and chaplains. There is also non-clinical support staff and a very active fund raising team. In addition to the paid staff there is an an active volunteer team helping in all areas of the hospice. All staff and volunteers share a strong commitment to the philosophy of Katharine House which is to care for people and their families by addressing physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs through an individualised approach

The entries are in! Teams from across our seven shops and our eCommerce team have been channelling (or should that be Chanel-ling) their inner fashion designer. We think they’ve done a fantastic job with their autumn outfits – but how do you think they got on? Why not show some love by liking their pics? ❤️ Every time you donate to one of our shops or bag a bargain, you are directly helping to fund the care of people with life-limiting illnesses. Why not take a look online or pop into our shops and see if there's an autumn outfit you can't leaf without? 🍂 #HospiceCareWeek #HospiceCare #CharityShopping #CharityShopFinds #Oxfordshire #NotBuyingNew #Banbury #Oxfordshire

On the second day of Hospice Care Week, we’re highlighting the importance of our charity shops and our brilliant retail team. We know that there are some fantastic items and high-quality clothing in our shops. So we thought we’d set our retail teams a challenge… Create the best autumn outfit for £20! £20 may not sound a lot, but that money could fund an hour of compassionate, expert nursing care for our patients in our IPU. We’ll check back with them later in the week to see what they’ve put together. Think you can create a chic and stylish autumn outfit for £20 from our shops? Send us your videos or pics of your haul. #HospiceCareWeek #HospiceCare #CharityShopping #CharityShopFinds #Oxfordshire #NotBuyingNew #Banbury #Oxfordshire

It’s #HospiceCareWeek and this year the theme is focused on hospice retail. Every time you donate to one of our shops or bag a bargain, you are directly helping to fund the care of people with life-limiting illnesses. Last year, our shops raised £1 million – and we couldn't have done it without your support. Why not pop into one of our seven local hospice shops or check out our eBay page and see what you can find? Share your #CharityShopTreasures with us.

Caring is at the heart of everything we do at Katharine House, and that includes caring for the environment. 🌍 Our team of Sustainability Champions at the hospice have been introducing and trialling new ways we can all reduce our environmental impact. As well as taking part in No Mow May and swapping to some tasty Zero Waste Snacks in July to help cut plastic usage, we've just held our first Swap Shop at the hospice. 👚👖 Sustainability Champion Charlotte explained: "We know that the fashion industry accounts for 10% of global pollution so buying second hand is really important to us. The Swap Shop was a great opportunity to donate some pre-loved items and get something in return to spruce up our wardrobes! "We had over 130 items donated from staff, around 30 items swapped, and 22 items sold! Just from items donated by staff, we estimated that this has saved the equivalent of nearly 2 tonnes in CO2!" We'll be sharing more updates on the different ways we're being more sustainable and doing what we can to care for our planet as well as our patients. ❤️

Say hello to our new Patient Ambassador, David! 👋 After receiving care from Katharine House earlier this year, David was so impressed with the hospice, he asked if he could volunteer, now that he felt fit enough. So, it was with David in mind that we created a brand-new Patient Ambassador role where patient volunteers go out into the community to share their experiences of the hospice to help spread the word. Speaking about his time in our Inpatient Unit, David said: "Over two weeks, they took me from extreme pain and feeling close to death to feeling like I could leave in a pair of spiked running shoes! I felt that I was loved because I was in their care … total love. It means a lot to me that I can help others with my voice and share my story!" ❤️ You can read David's story here: https://lnkd.in/euiDYxt9

We're counting down to our Accumulator Challenge, and the fighting talk is really ramping up as businesses, schools, colleges and community groups get ready to battle it out. Graf UK Ltd and Banbury & District Chamber of Commerce, who are both long-time supporters of the hospice, are looking forward to getting stuck into the Accumulator Challenge again this year. Banbury Chamber’s Derek Hettenbach said the team are determined to take on last year's Ultimate Accumulators Graf UK and have their eye on the prize: "We watched. We learned. We've grown. We are hungry. Challenge accepted!" 🥊 Callum Vallance-Poole, Marketing Co-ordinator at Graf UK said: “Last year, our team raised an incredible amount of money for the hospice and ignited the competitive nature of some local businesses, which is what we want to see! The more we drive ourselves and other businesses, the more money raised for a wonderful cause, which is the aim of the game. But now it’s time to put our money where our mouth is and retain our Ultimate Accumulator Challenge crown!” 👑 It's not too late to join the fun and sign your business, school, college or community group up to our fundraising challenge. Our Accumulator Challenge celebrates success in fundraising, creativity, sustainability and community. Registration closes on 11 October. www.khh.org.uk/accumulator
