Founder sharing insights on entrepreneurship, leadership & Gen Zalpha | Building luna, the fastest growing health app for teens | Keynote Speaker | Oxford MBA

Everything starts with an idea. And this one changed my life. 3 years today, back at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford school, Jo and I decided to incorporate luna. What started as an MBA project is now a real business providing a game changing service to teens globally. But the decision to start a business doesn't happen overnight - it's a HUGE decision. Here are 6 key questions to evaluate if you're ready to work on your ideas for the long haul: 1. Are you ready to do this day in and day out? ↳ Building a business is all consuming - if you can't give 150% from the jump, then it's going to be a real slog. 2. Are you doing this alone or with someone else? ↳ If it's the former, do you have someone you can lean on, and if it's the latter are they the right person. 3. Do you have a strong support system? ↳ Make sure your family and friends around are onboard to provide the emotional backing you need. 4. How will you manage stress? ↳Think about the strategies you want to implement to maintain and look after your mental health - it's hard!! 5. Are you prepared for lifestyle changes? ↳Hobbies and social activities will take a backseat, at least for the first few years - does this timing work. 6. Do you have enough savings? ↳ Having a savings or a side gig will help with the first few months of uncertainty while the business stabilises. If it feels like the right time or idea now, then I say go for it. Smartphones can be dangerous, toxic and addictive. BUT a blanket ban for kids is not the answer. Seeing EE taking the potential of phone overuse seriously and making recommendations that aren't just motivated by profits is refreshing. But some of the debate is missing the positive things that smartphones can bring to young people. In my role as a Founder of a teen health app over the last 3 years, I understand what life as a teen is like today. Information is power; smartphones put that power in the fingertips of young people. That means the ability to: 👉 Supplement their classroom learning with dynamic online tools (e.g., revision platforms) 👉 Understand their finances (often not taught in schools) in a responsible way with apps (e.g., GoHenry) 👉 Access to confidential support (almost 3/4 of Childline's counselling sessions take place online) 👉 Learn from resources in relation to their health and wellbeing in a way that works for them (e.g., luna) I understand and agree with the reasoning for no phones in school. I completely believe that protecting youth online (especially primary school kids) is incredibly important. I worry deeply about the amount of misinformation on social media (the reason for starting luna) But I don't believe that a blanket ban is the way forward. Proportionate safeguards, staggered by age bracket are the way forward. We need parents, schools, tech companies, and government to be pulling in the same direction. I'd love to hear your thoughts below 👇 ******************* ♻️ Repost if you agree 👉 Follow Jas Schembri-Stothart for my views on Gen Zalpha

Think you're the best communicator? Perhaps not. Sometimes we speak in a language that works for us but not others. Here's 5 things you can do to improve that: 1. Know your audience’s preferences ↳ Adapt your tone - be it chatty and humorous or concise and polished - match what resonates with them 2. Choose the right medium ↳ Use a communication channel your audience prefers - don’t push a medium they’re not comfortable with 3. Use relevant references ↳ Avoid cultural references that you or your audience may not fully grasp - this is dangerous territory 4. Stay adaptable ↳ Tune into your audience’s verbal and non-verbal cues to adjust your approach in real time 5. Match their energy and pace ↳ If your audience is lively and fast-paced, keep up. For a more serious crowd, slow down and be thorough Master these techniques, and you’ll build stronger connections and communicate more effectively. 👇 What would you add to this list? ******************* ♻️ Repost if you found this useful 👉 Follow Jas Schembri-Stothart for insights like this

Founder life may look like a dream to some... But there is often a much darker reality:  Alongside all the positives that come with being a Founder there are also thoughts like: 👉 What will I do if I fail? 👉 Was it obvious I'm tired? 👉 How much runway do I have left? 👉 What if that partnership doesn't land? 👉 Does it make me a bad friend for cancelling? 👉 Am I behind in life, I don't have a mortgage yet? 👉 Am I giving enough to my personal relationships? 👉 I can't afford that, but don't want to let them down? 👉 Will I be able to take any time off for maternity leave? So, whilst being a Founder is exciting, energising and rewarding, it's also one of the toughest mental and physical journeys anyone can go on. ❤️ Check in with Founder pals ❤️ Give them grace ❤️ Support them They’re not just growing a company—they’re growing through every obstacle they face. ✅ Follow me Jas Schembri-Stothart for Founder stories like this as I build luna -------------- Image inspiration taken from Katie Guild and adapted

Having no morning routine & bad habits doesn't = failure. It makes you a human. Finally, a post that didn't make me feel bad about having my phone in bed, snoozing my alarm or drinking more than 4 cups of coffee a day ☕️ (oops!) We're not robots, we can only do so much. Time to cut yourself some slack. ❤️ Thanks for the honesty Steven Bartlett ♻️ Reshare if this post resonated ************************ 🧠 Follow me Jas Schembri-Stothart for relatable founder stories like this as I build luna ⚡️

In 2021, before the official luna launch, Eva, Chloe, Maisey & Charlotte were our testers… We went into their school and manually onboarded them onto the no-code version of luna that Jo Goodall built 📱 Stitched together with excel sheets, Youtube and emails - this was the app that our first testers were using. Despite it looking and being pretty basic, testers were logging in 6 times a week, reading and asking questions. This proved there was a need for a solution like luna 💗 More importantly, teens were providing feedback for us when we didn’t even ask for it. Eva suggested we should form a feedback group, self named the Luminaries (no joke!)💡 The Luminaries gave honest (brutal) feedback and helped us launch officially on app stores. Since then the Luminaries evolved into our Brand Ambassadors which has grown to over 300 members🫶 They’ve helped spread the word to 100,000 teens who are now using luna and helped us get to App of the Day (3 times!). From day 1 we realised the importance on building with our members, not just for feedback but for growth and brand building too. 2 years on and Eva, Chloe, Maisey & Charlotte are still proud luna ambassadors. They self organise, keeping us on top of trends, emojis to avoid and down with the kids. In fact they devised the whole Taylor Swift x luna campaign that took us viral 🪩✨ Never underestimate the value of your earliest adopters, they’ll be your best supporters & sounding boards 💛 ************************* 👉 Follow Jas Schembri-Stothart for more startup stories like this one
