However, the total absence of funding for #SocialHousing is a critical factor in the pace of #BuildingSafety work. Govt must end this unfair & discriminatory system & give #SocialHousing equal access to funding.

An inspiring visit to Alpha (RSL) Ltd on Merseyside yesterday as part of Starts at Home Day, alongside colleagues from Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and Wirral Council. We spent the morning speaking with residents at Poppyfields, an extra care scheme on the Wirral. Poppyfields is a modern extra care scheme consisting of 78 independent flats. It puts independence with care, support, aging with dignity and creating a home for life at the heart of its community. Great to hear from residents about the friendships they've found living there. Alpha is just one example of the great work housing associations are doing to support vulnerable and older adults to live independent lives. There's an opportunity for government to put funding for supported housing on a stable footing at the forthcoming Budget. 880,000 pensioners who are eligible for Pension Credit are not currently in receipt of the benefit. We agree with the government's decision not to take forward the proposals included in the Social Housing Allocations Reform consultation. While we recognise that social housing is a finite resource that must be prioritised for those in need, we believe the proposed changes would have led to unintended negative consequences, including a likely increase in homelessness, additional pressure on temporary accommodation, and the exclusion of many people in need from accessing social housing. https://lnkd.in/eDXZG5J4

This #StartsAtHome day, with a new government, it is our chance to build political support for this specialist housing provision, whilst raising awareness of the pressures that supported housing is facing. The future of supported housing relies on proper recognition and proper funding to provide housing and support to all who need it.  This should be a key part of a long-term plan for housing that ensures everyone can live as independently as possible, for as long as possible, in a home that meets their needs. https://lnkd.in/dsCj8eF7
