There is no climate or economic solution without nature. Governments must incorporate nature into policy, and businesses and investors must recognize the economic opportunities of preserving and restoring ecosystems. 🍀 Today, the Nature4Climate coalition is excited to announce the launch of its new unbranded campaign: ➡ WITH NATURE. A flexible platform, the new campaign calls out to diverse sectors to take action and advocate for nature´s agency in tackling the climate and biodiversity crises as they reach a turning point. Together, we can LEAD WITH NATURE. We now nominate Crowther Lab | ETH Zurich to join us in this campaign and share their commitment to act with nature. #WithNature #ClimateAction

Nature4Climate aims to increase action on natural climate solutions in support of the 2015 Paris climate agreement.
About us
Nature4Climate is a multi-organization strategic communications platform to help raise the profile of natural climate solutions and catalyse action on the ground. Natural climate solutions are proven ways of storing and reducing carbon emissions in the world’s forests, grasslands and wetlands, and better stewardship of the land also has impact on other critical environmental, social and economic benefits, which are less well understood. These solutions are available immediately, are scalable and can transform key sectors of the global economy, such as forestry and agriculture – and they are available almost everywhere on the planet. Despite the fundamental science being very well understood, action on land use remains much underused as a climate strategy – lacking the funding and attention that has helped kickstart the energy transition. We use creative communications and advocacy to influence international climate policy, national government policy, and private sector action on implementing natural climate solutions between now and 2023. We bring together voices from governments, IGOs and NGOs, and business – underpinned by a steering group with communications and advocacy representation currently from CBD, CI, TNC, the UNDP, WHRC, WRI and WWF.

What Success May Look Like for Nature at #COP29? The top priority at this ‘finance COP’ is to establish a new global goal for climate finance, aiming to replace the previous $100 billion target with a new goal of US$1 trillion per year. We are also mainly calling on leaders to deliver: 1️⃣ Triple the finance for nature by 2030 to meet climate and biodiversity goals. 2️⃣ Create ambitious and investable Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to mobilize private sector capital into nature-based solutions. 3️⃣ Harmonize and align plans, policies, and budgets across the Rio Conventions ahead of COP30 to ensure cohesive action. Read more below about other success trackers and key asks to ensure nature is at the heart of global climate strategies.

It’s November, 2024. It’s been 388 months since world leaders gathered in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and agreed to work together to ensure that land, climate, and biodiversity benefit from a joint approach to restore balance to our planet. Much changed since then, some for the better, but the challenge feels more pressing than ever. We find ourselves now one week after Cali, the chosen home for the biodiversity #COP16, one week to Baku, host of the climate #COP29, and one month to Saudi Arabia, site of desertification #COP16; and the journey ahead seems ever so long. But even as you, navigators of the Rio Conventions, might be feeling a bit out of breath, here are a few reasons to just keep swimming. 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/dtbXvUSG

🎦 Nature’s Newsroom Wrap-Up: Reframing Finance and Scaling Nature Investments As COP29 in Azerbaijan approaches next week, leaders such as André Guimarães (IPAM Amazonia - Amazon Environmental Research Institute), Tatiana Schor (Inter-American Development Bank’s Amazonia Forever Program), and Tana Lala-Pritchard (Rainforest Foundation Norway) shared their insights on how public and private finance can drive the transition to a Nature Positive future, particularly by engaging Indigenous communities as strategic partners. The film also highlights insights on scaling investments and creating the right conditions to unlock investments that benefit both people and the planet, with contributions from Mark Wishnie (BTG Pactual Timberland Investment Group), Gavin Edwards (WWF), and Andy Jarvis (Bezos Earth Fund). 🔜 Looking ahead to the next climate conference and COP30 in Brazil next year, these conversations are crucial for shaping the future of nature finance. #NaturePositive #WithNature #InvestInNature #ClimateAction #SustainableFinance

🍃 How are nature-based solutions progressing around the world? 🍂 With the 4th edition of Nature4Climate and Arboretica's Nature-based Solutions Policy tracker now available, you can keep track of NbS policy and finance worldwide. Unfortunately, there are a few major gaps, including: 🍃 Only one-third (33%) of nature-related policies published since the Paris Agreement have allocated budgets. 🍃Less than two in ten (19%) of policies specifically reference Indigenous Peoples. 🍃Almost four in ten (38%) of policies reference adaptation strategies. Great work by our Nature4Climate coalition partners on producing this report - hopefully, this will ensure more efforts and finance are put into protecting nature and supporting Indigenous Peoples. Colombia and Brazil can guide the world with an integrated approach to the dual crisis of climate and nature 🇨🇴 🇧🇷 We have long known that we solve both or we solve neither - they are two sides of the same coin. And yet, all too often, the international community is treating them as separate challenges. This is the moment we can change course. I have joined leaders – representing business, finance, science, civil society, Indigenous Peoples, and youth – to call on President Petro of Colombia and President Lula of Brazil, hosts of COP16 and COP30, to drive a year of united global action on climate, nature and food systems. With leadership from Colombia and Brazil, the next 12 months are an historic opportunity for the world to: 🌎 Strengthen national climate and biodiversity plans 🌿 Scale up investment for nature and food systems transformation 🗣️ Support the inclusive participation of Indigenous Peoples and local communities Read the letter here: English https://lnkd.in/dku4baB4 Spanish: https://lnkd.in/davwFrEn #ProtectWhatWeLove #WithNature

🌎 Vegetable Oils are an important part of the future of sustainable food systems in Latin America 🌴 The Spanish edition of IUCN’s much-awaited report on the future of vegetable oils was launched at #COP16. The questions posed in the report about the future of food systems are particularly relevant to Latin America, where Brazil is the world’s leading soy producer, and Colombia’s production of palm oil doubled in the decade leading to 2020. Inasmuch as the production and trade of vegetable oils have significant negative externalities, including biodiversity loss, carbon emissions, and worker rights issues, these important crops are also part of the solution. Agroforestry and regenerative agriculture practices across Latin America, as well as human and worker rights initiatives, can serve as references for the kinds of food systems we want to nurture in the future. 🔗 Read more about the English and Spanish versions here: https://lnkd.in/e-iwCxu3 📷 African oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) at Manuelita's Altamira palm oil farm in the Colombian Llanos.
