Helping #ukmfg to run winning Apprenticeship Schemes via benchmarking, best practice sharing & an Employer Accreditation
About us
Next Gen Makers recognises the best employers in the UK for engineering apprenticeships with the Engineering Apprenticeships: Employer Accreditation - and helps any company to get there. A community led initiative, member companies engage in benchmarking and best practice sharing to run successful Apprenticeship Schemes which better attract and retain young talent, whilst shining a light on the best employers to inspire and connect the next generation. Through our Engineering Apprenticeships: Best Practice Programme, our goal is to enable engineering & manufacturing firms of all sizes to deliver the best possible apprentice experience whilst becoming great at attracting and retaining skilled apprentice talent. In collaboration with our strategic partner Make UK, our ‘Engineering Apprenticeships: Employer Accreditation’ recognises exemplar employers of engineering apprentices; helping young people to make more informed choices on where they pursue their apprenticeship, whilst enabling excellent employers to get recognised and stand out in the competitive world of attracting young talent. Our Engineering Apprenticeships: Excellent Employer careers platform showcases member companies to a minimum of x5 schools per company, increasing employer brand awareness and signposting of aspiring engineers to their opportunities, whilst helping to inform and inspire the next generation.

The 2024 summer intake mirrors that of 2023, with individuals working towards a Toolmaking pathway and specialised training provided by long standing apprenticeship training partner MIDLAND GROUP TRAINING SERVICES LIMITED (MGTS). As Chancellor Rachel Reeves prepares to deliver her budget, organisations such as Make UK and the Association of Colleges want resources to be better focused on the sector. Make UK CEO Stephen Phipson said the primary reason for the collapse in #manufacturing apprenticeships was the government’s failure to fund them at a level that made them economic for colleges and private training companies to deliver. According to Make UK’s submission to the Treasury ahead of the Budget, government funding for a Level 3 (equivalent to A-level standard) apprenticeship in engineering is capped at £27,000 when they cost £36,000 a year to deliver. “The new government has committed to building a talent pipeline but this cannot happen with the current funding arrangements which are leading many training providers to simply walk away because it is basically uneconomic,” Phipson said. Make UK said it was not asking for more money, but was instead urging Treasury to concentrate existing levy resources better, in order to fully finance the apprenticeship standards that support its “industrial strategy”. https://lnkd.in/exEhP8jk #SupportUKmfg #ShoutAboutUKmfg #UKmanufacturing #UKmfg Ben Courts Jim Davison Dawn Huntrod Darren Grantham Annette Hobson Janis Richards Terri H.
