This is my almost 5 year old son Jesse.
He's what many would call an 'angel child'.
As far as kids go, he's very easy!
He's sleeps through the night, and has done since he was 4 weeks old.
He's kind, caring, gentle and calm.
He has no health concerns or conditions.
At this point, I would consider him to be neurotypical.
We've been fortunate enough to be able to afford almost full time childcare since he was 12 months, in the absence of any family members who would be able to help.
My husband has a supportive boss and a company who allow him to do 2 days of drop offs and pick ups each week (shout out to Balfour Beatty plc ) and I do the other 3.
I've been fortunate enough to work in a hybrid model since he was 12 months old, only needing to be in the office 2 days a week (however I'm now fully remote).
Safe to say, we've had it pretty good. And we count our blessings for this everyday.
But what about all the parents who don't have it this easy? i.e MOST PARENTS!
- Those with multiple children to juggle
- Those with children who have physical disabilities
- Those with children with health conditions
- Those with children who are neurodiverse
- Those who struggle to afford the astronomical childcare costs
- Those who work shifts or struggle to find any form of flexibility from work
- Those with children who wake multiple times a night - lack of sleep is no joke.
- Those with children with SEN
- I could go on....
Parenting is hard. Parenting whilst trying to hold down and career, let alone thrive in your career is even harder.
Can we do more to support parents? YES
Many companies are smashing their family friendly policies and initiatives, but most still have work to do.
Which is why we have teamed up with Nugget Savings to bring together People/HR leaders in London, on Monday 23rd September, to hear from experts and learn how we as a collective, can do better to support parents to thrive in their careers.
If you're in a senior HR/People role, and you'd like to come along, here is the link to register - https://lu.ma/2rttmc1x
We'll be hearing from Nugget Savings, Flexa and Papier and they'll be a tonne of takeaways to help you, help your people!
