We are a reuse practice

About us

Page\Park is an award-winning architectural practice undertaking work across the UK from our studio offices in Glasgow and Leeds. We are an Employee Owned Business reflecting our culture of sharing ownership and responsibility across all that we do. Founded in 1981, Page\Park Architects has grown from a small Glasgow-based partnership to a busy employee owned practice of thirty-five staff with offices in Glasgow and Leeds. Over the years, we have earned a reputation for excellence in design and delivery across the UK, providing responsive solutions rooted in the needs and experience of local users and communities. We have an unwavering practice ethos: of being a creative community, united by a common purpose to design creatively, with integrity, and to make a difference. We have never delivered two buildings the same, nor presumed that a solution for one client will be appropriate for another. We are defined by a determination to challenge and persist, until we uncover the right answers for our clients.

Thanks to Gavin Ballantine at Ballantine Castings Ltd. for showing us round their foundry last week. Probably the most atmospheric supplier visit I’ve ever been on. True assault on the senses. Looking forward to seeing the new cast iron railings for our project at Teviot Row House go in to production soon. Page\Park Architects GRAHAM Building The University of Edinburgh

The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland have commissioned Jim Stephenson to produce a short film documenting North Gate as part of the shortlisting for the 2024 Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award. A resident of North Gate featured in the film, describes the new homes as a village in the city. With an active ground floor community space combined with a single core to provide access to the four flats per floor on each level, the building encourages social interaction. This feedback demonstrates the success of the building which places social wellbeing at its heart. The video forms part of a series being published by Dezeen in collaboration with the RIAS to highlight the award's five-strong 2024 shortlist. On behalf of our client Scottish Opera we were delighted yesterday when Glasgow City Council Planning Applications Committee approved Scottish Opera’s application for a new headquarters. It has been an absolute privilege to support Scottish Opera on this journey to realise their vision for the future of their organisation at New Rotterdam Wharf. As a practice wholly committed to the re-use and regeneration of buildings and places within the city, supporting Scottish Opera to continue to flourish, with a design that will contribute significantly to the ongoing regeneration and development of a cultural hub along the Glasgow branch of the Forth & Clyde Canal, is tremendously exciting for us. We wish to thank the full design team involved in the project for the creativity they each brought to the process and also to the City Design Group for the robust and positive dialogue through Pre-App and Application stages that helped shape and refine the proposals. Page\Park Architects is an award-winning practice with offices in Glasgow and Leeds. It describes itself as "a reuse practice" - its mission statement reading: "our built environment is not disposable". Through a process of carefully considered design intervention, its teams - including senior project architect, James Brimble - find the best qualities of existing places and celebrate them. In this week's interview, James chats to us in more detail about Page\Park's approach to retrofit in residential, social housing in Scotland, and the studio's thoughts around hitting the government's targets for affordable housing: https://ow.ly/H03Y50TIAyg #retrofit #housing #scotland

Our Johnstone In early 2024 we worked with Renfrewshire Council and a specialist consultant team including Stantec to set out an ambitious vision for the future of Johnstone Town Centre. The vision and priorities within the Johnstone Town Centre Vision Framework have been developed in partnership with the local community. This included an informal ‘drop in’ event, online survey, visits to local schools and one to one meetings with local stakeholders and community organisations. Around 1800 people contributed their views and ideas, which have informed a series of key principles and actions. The plan supports the sustainable growth of the town centre, ensuring that it evolves as a diverse, sustainable and thriving place for the local community and settlements across West Renfrewshire. The vision offers an opportunity to shape a Johnstone town centre which is fit for the future – a town centre which is vibrant, sustainable, connected, green and resilient. It is a tremendous honour to be attending the RIBA Stirling Prize 2024 ceremony this week to celebrate the best of UK architecture. North Gate is shortlisted for the Neave Brown Award alongside three other fantastic projects. Completed in 2022, the project exemplifies our commitment to the delivery of high quality, contextual social housing. North Gate forms part of a much broader housing portfolio in the New Gorbals that traces back to the origins of our practice, established in the early 1980s. The project seeks to define a blueprint for the future of social housing, where thoughtful and innovative architecture creates accessible, quality spaces in which communities can thrive. North Gate has recently won a RIAS Award and RIBA National Award, and is in the shortlist for the 2024 Doolan Prize. We are delighted to have recently started works on the Grade 1 listed Leeds Town Hall. The design for this 1858 Victorian masterpiece has been created by Page \ Park in collaboration with NPS and the wider design team.   For the first time in its history, Leeds Town Hall will feature democratic step-free access, with improved visibility from Victoria Square into a new secondary main entrance. This entrance will become a celebratory experience more akin to that of entering the building by the main ceremonial steps and doors. This essential enhancement is complemented by new and widened openings, fostering a stronger connection between the Town Hall and the city. These thoughtfully designed entryways offer an accessible and seamless journey from the exterior to the interior, inviting the city into this historic venue.   The new entrance hall will reference the opulent materials and colours of the main lobby, with new glazed tiles and a brightly coloured lift shaft creating a vibrant welcome. The new lift provides access to a new reception and ticketing area, and beyond to the Victoria Hall and the rest of the building. Previously under-used areas of the east side of the building, facing Calverly street, will be opened up to create new contemporary bars and toilets to service the Victoria Hall.  These spaces have been meticulously transformed to ensure a first-class visitor experience. In the bars, historic details that were previously hidden have been carefully restored and paired with thoughtfully considered additions. These enhancements create elegant and welcoming spaces that serve patrons during intervals, all within a grand and historically rich setting. This blend of old and new enriches the venue's experience while preserving the distinct charm of the Town Hall, ensuring visitors enjoy a seamless and unforgettable experience. We are thrilled to have been shortlisted for The Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland Andrew Doolan Prize Best Building in Scotland Award 2024. Established in 2002, the objective of the award is to identify and publicly celebrate the best building in Scotland each year. According to the jury, the buildings chosen represent the variety of high-quality, contemporary buildings in Scotland. “Choosing a shortlist for this year’s Doolan Award was both an honour and a challenge: there was a wealth of ambitious projects worthy of further celebration,” said chair of the Doolan Award jury David Kohn. “The unanimously chosen final five demonstrate the breadth of contemporary Scottish architecture, from the finely-crafted to the handsomely urbane, from the revitalising of national treasures to state-of-the-art facilities.” On North Gate the jury cited they were impressed by the architects’ commitment to provide convivial, attractive and robustly-detailed homes – clearly adored by residents and making for a new part of the city. Congratulations to all the other shortlisted entries. New Gorbals Housing Association
