  • Great to see MYO New Street Square recognised in the Recycled/Refurbished category at this year’s British Council for Offices Awards. A key feature of this project was transforming the existing plant into a high-quality sixth-floor space. The design team demonstrated how repurposing inefficient areas can unlock new opportunities, enhance functionality, and create exceptional work environments. This is one of four projects we’ve collaborated on with MYO and Landsec, supporting their commitment to future-proofed workplaces. 16 St Martin’s Le Grand captured on video… 🎥   Completed this summer, 16 St Martin’s Le Grand is a project which is characterised by subtle elegance and grandeur. Situated on a historic street in the heart of the City of London, the building draws its name from the medieval church of St. Martin’s le Grand, once a prominent local landmark.   Number 16 is an architectural gem and a prime example of the Chicago School of Architecture, lauded by English Heritage as "the earliest and most architecturally successful building to interpret this style."   Our comprehensive refurbishment includes a new reception space, state-of-the-art end-of-trip facilities, and flexible workspaces. Two floors have been designed as fully fitted plug-and-play spaces as part of the base build. Additionally, the façade has been meticulously restored, with the reinstatement of the iconic bronze bands that define the building’s elevation.   Retrofitting a heritage building like this presents unique challenges, but it’s a task the design team embraced with enthusiasm and care. We are delighted that full planning approval has been granted for MRG Studio’s scheme at New Street Square, paving the way for the transformation of this elegant public square in the City of London into a richly planted urban oasis to support our city's return to retail and healthy workplaces after the pandemic. In 2023, MRG Studio won a design competition to design the refurbishment of this square, introducing more biodiverse planting and inclusive seating into the open space. The refurb will also allow more flexibility for events, with ecologically valuable planting carefully conceived and detailed to suit the context (and constraints) of the existing structures. We are now looking forward to building it next year! • We are thrilled to have been part of the exceptional project team for Kao Data’s KLON-06 data centre in Slough. Successfully handing over the 4MW phase 2 fit-out is a testament to the dedication and collaboration of everyone involved. Congratulations to all who contributed to this remarkable milestone! Looking forward to seeing Phase 3 progress!

The project team at Kao Data’s KLON-06 Slough data centre has successfully handed over the 4MW phase 2 fit-out! The handover follows the successful Integrated System Testing (IST) of Technology Suite (TS)-05, where data loggers have collected temperature and humidity data over the past two weeks. The project team at KLON-06 is responsible for the full M&E design & build, CSA construction, commissioning and fit-out of TS-05, and handing over the 1210m2 4MW data hall in line with the programme. Supporting the data hall are 18 IEC units that feed the main hall with cooling, alongside four switch rooms utilising colour-coded busbars to identify the power stream. Two generators enable N+1 redundancy, with the generators enclosed on a bespoke external enclosure built by the Gratte Brothers' CSA team. Congratulations to the project team for reaching this milestone and enabling Kao Data to continue providing data centres engineered for AI. Work continues at KLON-06, where Phase 3 works are well underway. #DataCentres #Engineering #BuildingServices

Our retrofit of 60 Queen Victoria Street in the City of London has gained planning. The careful repositioning of the landmark City office retains the architectural spirit of the original building while bringing the development up to modern standards, boosting the project's wellness and sustainability credentials.   The design minimises changes to the exterior architectural language of the 1997-99 Peter Foggo-designed office building while substantially improving environmental performance. The reworking of the interior–which includes the creation of an enlarged hospitality-led reception, dedicated cycle entrance at ground floor, and the addition of the rooftop pavilion– creates flexible floorplates and enhance the amenity offering. Project spotlight: KLON-06, Slough We’re delighted to report on the progress of our KLON-06 project in collaboration with Kao Data, marking the recent completion of Phase 1, 2 and 3 of the structural design and fit-out of this state-of-the-art data centre in Slough. This project highlights our commitment to driving innovation and excellence in data centre development. This extensive project will develop four new technical data halls, including two 4MW suites, one 2.5MW suite, and one 1.25MW suite, each with its own independent infrastructure. Successfully adapting an existing building with long spans to maximise data hall space, we employed deep lightweight lattice girders for support. Despite the constraints of working on a live data centre site, we meticulously designed new steelwork to avoid existing services, implementing an efficient and flexible steelwork arrangement. This allowed for the installation of long span steel trusses in a live environment, significantly reducing the amount of steelwork needed by aligning our design with M&E requirements. Currently, Phases 2 and 3 are under construction, and we are gearing up to start Phase 4 on site in September. Thank you to our incredible team and partners: Kao Data, studioNWA, i3 Solutions Group, Buro Four, Hoare Lea. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to set new standards in the industry. • Parmarbrook’s Chetan Parmar, Ben Paterson, and Steven Davidson, were pleased to attend yesterday’s tour of Devonshire Square’s Building 7 as part of Bisnow's UK Construction & Development: Retrofitting For The Future event, hosted by Nuveen, a TIAA company. Situated at the centre of the Devonshire Square campus, Building 7 has been transformed to provide top-tier office space, encompassing approximately 95,000 sqft of dynamic workspace. The building also features outstanding sustainability credentials, including NABERS 5 star and BREEAM Outstanding ratings. Parmarbrook has successfully delivered the civil and structural engineering for the project, alongside the project team Nuveen, a TIAA company, Squire and Partners & Partners and Built. The event included an insightful panel discussion where industry leaders discussed the highest demand sites for retrofit and key considerations around site selection, the future pipeline of retrofitted schemes in the UK, and, vitally, the sustainability benefits of retrofitting and upgrading buildings. A big thank you to Nuveen, Bisnow, and all the panellists for an engaging event and the wonderful opportunity to explore the completed site. #Retrofitting #Sustainability #DevonshireSquare #FutureOfWorkspaces
