Brilliant to see Cradle to Career highlighted in New Local 's latest think piece by Jessica Studdert. "In North Birkenhead, an area that has high levels of deprivation, the Cradle to Career approach was borne out of frustration with persistent poor outcomes for local children and young people. Recognising the complexity of the challenge was beyond the scope of any single agency, the initiative began with a phase of deep exploration across the community, VCS and local public agencies about what would shift the dial. The ideas that emerged shaped a range of activity working towards the collective goal of improving life chances, with notable results." By putting communities at the heart of decision making, we can ensure that every child and young person has the help and opportunity they need to succeed. Power. Prevention. Place. These are the pillars of an emerging 'new local', writes Jessica Studdert in a new think piece. While the Government’s agenda for local government, devolution and public services takes shape, there is bold local practice already happening elsewhere, built on the principles of power, prevention and place. "Using the advantage of proximity to deeply complex and interconnected challenges, they are showing how it is possible to secure better outcomes and more tangible impact." Because the system isn't unfixable - it's being mended from the ground up, alongside communities - and it's time national players gave it due attention. https://lnkd.in/eHQW_geD Ft. amazing examples from London Borough of Camden, Wakefield Council, Test Valley Borough Council, Essex Recovery Foundation, We Are Juno CIC, Gateshead Council, Mark Smith, Sussex MSK Partnership Central, Healthier Fleetwood, Right To Succeed, Wirral Council
