Yesterday on our 10th Birthday, our Chief Programmes Officer Rekha Patel-Harrison MBA joined the Resolve Poverty conference panel along with Ashwin Kumar, Matt Hyde OBE & Ruth Welford. The conference brought together people from across the country wanting to tackle poverty at a local and regional level. During the panel discussions Rekha shared insights into the work of RTS and learning from our experience in #placebasedchange. It was highlighted how Right To Succeed work in a robust and creative way to access greater resources, people and community assets with varied funding streams to affect systems change.  Our aim is to implement longer term #sustainability, we are on a journey, a journey in which we are continuously learning as a charitable organisation. So far in our 10 years we have delivered ground-breaking impact, we will continue to learn, refining methods to build upon that impact keeping the community at the heart of everything we do. “The biggest issue facing our communities is how little say they have in the way the wider system treats them. A new report from GL Assessment and Renaissance Learning, ‘Lost for Words’, is based on YouGov research spanning 1,000+ primary and secondary school teachers, and highlights a growing crisis in classroom communication.    As we are aware from our work, many children are struggling to articulate their thoughts, affecting not just their learning but also their literacy, confidence and classroom engagement. 💡 Almost half of teachers surveyed think these issues are easy to mistake for reading and maths difficulties, and a quarter say they are often misidentified as behavioural issues. Brilliant to see the fantastic work of Cradle to Career and the North Birkenhead community being recognised 🌟 An evaluation by the The University of Manchester reports how Cradle to Career's community-led approach is driving real systemic change. 🚨 Our latest report is now live. Reading the future: The impact of literacy support on disadvantaged pupils’ GCSE grades and beyond 📚 We are thrilled to share the findings of our latest report, in partnership with Pro Bono Economics, demonstrating how targeted literacy support is reshaping the futures of disadvantaged pupils across the UK. While our work in Blackpool and North Birkenhead underscores the urgency of the UK's literacy crisis, this report reveals that targeted literacy programmes can unlock significant academic and economic opportunities.  Despite the statistics that 1 in 5 primary school pupils aren't meeting expected reading standards, limiting their career prospects, earnings potential, and overall quality of life, our place-based change programmes are building a pathway to a more equitable future for all children. Key findings showed: 💰 Over 5,000 pupils could gain up to £9.2 million in potential increased earnings 📖 Pupils saw an average +0.3 grade improvement in indicative English GCSE scores, with underperforming pupils achieving a +0.7 grade improvement ✍️ Pupils with special educational needs and English as an additional language showed above-average improvement. Through strategic, place-based literacy support, we can break cycles of disadvantage and create lasting, positive change ensuring all children and young have the chance to thrive.
