About us
Since 1996, and the early promotion of Sustainable Drainage by the Environment Agency, Robert Bray Associates have developed an environmental approach to this new way of dealing with rainwater run-off which delivers both cost effective solutions for clients and maximum benefit to the community and wildlife. Working exclusively in SuDS Design for more than 20 years, we have an unrivalled portfolio of highly acclaimed projects throughout the UK working at a range of scales from large development masterplanning to individual developments and retrofit pocket parks. Our integrated design approach combines the functional requirements of SuDS with highly creative landscape and ecological design resulting in beautiful and useful SuDS landscapes that support wildlife and come alive when it rains. By exploiting available hard and soft landscape areas for SuDS functionality our schemes are cost-effective and attractive. Follow us:- Instagram: @robertbrayassociates Twitter: @robertbrayassociates

Last but not least, SuDS, Ecology & Biodiversity Net Gain Masterclass - - - > BRISTOL This level 2 masterclass explores how to design SuDS, or influence SuDS design, to optimise benefits to wildlife and how this fits with the new mandatory Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) requirements that came into force in early 2024. We’re joined by leader in the field of biodiversity in public realm, Peter Massini, and explore both his experiences of BNG, how this relates to landscape design and SuDS, as well as explore the general principles of ecological design applied to SuDS landscapes. We invite you to share your experience and thoughts throughout the day too, and apply learning through practical analysis and design exercises. Limited tickets so be quick! When: 21st November 2024 Where: Design West, Bristol Trainers: Kevin Barton FLI, Peter Massini and Judith Puckmayr Tickets: https://lnkd.in/eu-XkRwC #RaingardenMasterclass #SuDSMasterclasses #SuDS #raingardens #naturebasedsolutions #bioretention #ThisIsDrainage #climateresilience #landscape #SuDS #NatureBasedSolutions #thisislandscape #landscapearchitecture

NEXT IN ORDER - URBAN RAINGARDEN DESIGN MASTERCLASS - - - > BRISTOL This level 3, technical masterclass explores the use and design of bioretention raingardens to manage polluted runoff from urban hard surfaces. Exploring optioneering, hydraulic calculations, technical detailing, soils and plants, and including practical design and calculation exercises, this masterclass is essential learning for anyone getting involved in the burgeoning area of highway raingardens. We unpick these in our masterclass training, exploring the different thinking that has emerged in pioneering areas such as Sheffield alongside our own experience of more than 25 years designing and delivering nature-based SuDS and experience and practice from places where they've been doing this for decades, such as Portland, USA. We invite you to share your experience and thoughts throughout the day too, and apply learning through practical analysis and design exercises. Limited tickets so be quick! When: 20th November 2024 Where: Design West, Bristol Trainers: Kevin Barton FLI and Judith Puckmayr Tickets: https://lnkd.in/eu-XkRwC #RaingardenMasterclass #SuDSMasterclasses #SuDS #raingardens #naturebasedsolutions #WSUD #bioretention #bioswale #ThisIsDrainage #climateresilience #landscape

FIRST UP - INTEGRATED SuDS DESIGN MASTERCLASS ---> Bristol Learn how to design better SuDS and better places, from award-winning pioneers and recognised leaders in the field of SuDS. This in-person masterclass dives right into how to adopt design approaches that will enable you to unlock the potential of integrated SuDS design on any project, no matter how challenging. These approaches consistently lead to better landscapes and developments that deliver more benefits for people, wildlife and the wider environment, more layers of meaning and more design fulfilment, as well as being more functionally effective, robust, cost-effective and easy to maintain. By demystifying the hydraulic modelling and introducing techniques that allow you to easily design with and understand ‘the volumes’ as building blocks in your designs, you will learn to design SuDS more creatively, flexibly and intuitively – like playing with water flow on the beach! We’ll explore the many guises and applications of the range of SuDS techniques and give guidance on how to choose which are appropriate where. Together we’ll do some practical workshop exercises to apply what we’re learning through the day and explore the added value that reuniting rain positively with landscapes can bring. AND, we’ll empower you to challenge some of the blockages and barriers that get put in front of you in your projects. Our aim: to inspire, educate and empower. WHEN: 19th November 2024 WHERE: Design West, Bristol TICKETS: https://lnkd.in/eu-XkRwC #SuDS #sustainabledrainage #sustainablelandscapes #landscapearchitecture #ThisIsDrainage #masterclass #naturebasesystems #futureproofing #sustainability #ecology #raingardens #naturebasedsolutions

We love the new raingardens outside our HQ Urban Kitchen venue. Urban Foundry | B Corp™ worked with City & County of Swansea Council, University of Wales Trinity Saint David, and Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru / Natural Resources Wales on this project. The planters help: 🌿 Manage stormwater 🌿 Prevent flooding 🌿 Cool the environment 🌿 Provide habitats for local wildlife 🌿 Support biodiversity in urban settings 🌿 Connect to larger green spaces Thanks to Bob Bray at Robert Bray Associates, Alan VanWillegen at Natural Groundcare, Penny Gruffydd, and Fran Rolfe. Read all about the project in our blog post: https://lnkd.in/eJsmXKJZ The raingardens were made possible thanks to the Local Places for Nature funding by Welsh Government and Natural Resources Wales.
