Stepping into Leadership: The Role of a Contracts Manager at RW Armstrong A Contracts Manager plays a vital role in ensuring that projects run efficiently by minimising risk, optimising resources, and driving overall success. Recently, three of our team members have taken on this role, each bringing valuable experience and insight. Pete transitioned from Site Manager to Contracts Manager and found the biggest challenge was stepping back from the day-to-day site operations. The best advice he has received is to build a strong team around him to ensure all parts of the project work together seamlessly. He believes that if one element of the team is struggling, it is essential to provide support, as success depends on a well-functioning team. Ricky has been with RW Armstrong for nearly 24 years, starting as an Apprentice Carpenter. Now, as a Contracts Manager, he takes great pride in leading his own projects. He has found the complexity of RW Armstrong’s projects both challenging and rewarding, particularly in terms of design involvement and collaboration with architects to ensure project success. Scott recently moved from Assistant Contracts Manager to Contracts Manager and embraces the greater responsibility that comes with the role. He believes that strong people skills are essential, as construction requires working with a wide range of professionals. His approach is to remain open to new ideas and ways of thinking, as projects continuously evolve and present new challenges. We are proud to see Pete, Ricky, and Scott take on these leadership roles and look forward to their continued success at RW Armstrong. #familybusiness #buildingforgenerations #englishhome #finequalitybuilding #craftsmanship #refurbishment #rwarmstrong #craftsmanship #countryhousebuilders

This stunning new-build family residence was thoughtfully designed to maximise its breathtaking river views. Expansive glass doors open onto a generous stone terrace, seamlessly connecting the main living area to the garden and private jetty. To enhance this connection, high ground-floor ceilings were incorporated, and all principal rooms were positioned on the garden side, ensuring beautiful, open views. Upstairs, a carefully designed corridor layout allowed for optimal space planning, while strategically placed light wells flood the interior with natural light. Positioned on the banks of the River Thames, this exceptional country house blends classic elegance with modern design. Its close proximity to the river and specific planning requirements presented unique challenges. To mitigate flood risk, the house was elevated 1.5 meters above ground, allowing water to flow beneath and drain away. This elevation not only enhanced river views but also had to be carefully considered within the Local Authority’s height restrictions to ensure compliance. Three staircases provide easy access from the large stone terrace to the gardens, where a stunning outdoor swimming pool and pool house create the perfect space for relaxation. To counteract water pressure, the pool is secured with 16 anti-flotation piles tied to the base slab, ensuring long-term stability. Every detail of this home was carefully considered to create a space that is both practical and in harmony with its spectacular riverside setting. #familybusiness #buildingforgenerations #englishhome #finequalitybuilding #craftsmanship #newbuild #rwarmstrong #craftsmanship #joinery #countryhousebuilders #riversideproperty

This project consists of a full refurbishment of a townhouse in Chelsea. The property was carefully taken back to the original base construction and redecorated, with some of therooms reconfigured. A new kitchen and bathrooms were added, as well as new wall and floor finishes throughout. Towards the rear of the property, the orangery was carefully refurbished and a roof lantern installed. A bespoke joinery package was supplied by our Joinery Workshop, including fitted wardrobes, radiator casings and bookcases in the library. #familybusiness #buildingforgenerations #renovation #restoration #refurbishment #englishhome #finequalitybuilding #craftsmanship #londonrefurbishment #periodproperty #bespokejoinery

A significant extension was built alongside extensive renovations to this Grade II* Listed country home. The extension replicated the demolished north service wing, with intricate brickwork detailing and stone entrance porch. It comprises numerous rooms over three floors, and a unique Belvedere tower. Specialist joinery for the oval breakfast room and oak library was made by our joinery workshop, and walnut panelling crafted to match the originals. The refurbishment also included detailed fibrous cornicing, new floors and underfloor heating throughout. In addition, the gate lodge, cottages, stables and coach house were renovated. Externally, extensive landscaping was carried out, comprising a new pool house, formal lawns, walled gardens, fountains and pavilions providing the finishing touches and stunning setting for the impressive country estate. #familybusiness #buildingforgenerations #renovation #restoration #refurbishment #englishhome #finequalitybuilding #craftsmanship #gradeIIlisted #countryhome

Meet Liam, he recently joined us as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor. To support National Apprenticeship Week, his previous college invited him back to speak about how he secured his apprenticeship and how he is progressing. We caught up with Liam to hear his advice for those considering a similar path. Having always been interested in construction, he was drawn to the logistics, planning, and financial management of projects. He chose an apprenticeship as it offers hands-on experience while continuing academic development. Liam is consistently improving and gaining more responsibility than he expected at this stage. He credits the support of senior employees, who provide challenging tasks and encourage questions to said learning. His key advice is to be passionate about the sector, research the role in detail, and understand tasks such as valuations, payments, and orders. He also stresses the importance of being proactive and resilient when applying for roles, even reaching out to companies that may not be actively recruiting. “The most valuable lesson I have learnt is that if I ever have a question then it is important ask it. “ We are proud to support the next generation of professionals through apprenticeships and are committed to their growth and success. #nationalapprenticeshipweek #rwarmstrong #buildingcareers #nationalapprenticeshipweek2025 #naw25 #apprenticeships #youropportunityourapprenticeships #youropportunityourapprentices #rwarmstrong #craftsmanship #familybusiness #countryhousebuilders #buildyourfuture
