Architects with over 35 years of designing beautiful and responsible architecture that uplifts cities.
About us
Our passion for responsible, uplifting and beautiful design has informed our approach since 1987, when Rachel Haugh and Ian Simpson were united by a shared belief that innovative architectural thought has the power to shape and transform our cities. Reinforcing these guiding principles across a portfolio of work ranging from masterplans to interiors, we apply a creative and bespoke approach to every opportunity. Collaborating with our aspirational clients, communities and design teams, we harness their passion, knowledge and expertise to evolve powerful and pragmatic solutions. Remaining acutely aware of the impact of our decisions, we embrace the opportunity to show everyone that high quality design brings added value. With Rachel and Ian personally involved in each project, our guiding principles continue to inform and direct the ambition and quality of our work. Our talented architects, designers, visualisers, model makers and support team all contribute to meticulously delivering architecture of the highest design quality.

We recently had the pleasure of participating in career fair events at both Manchester Grammar School and Butterstile Primary School. Co-founding Partner Ian Simpson delivered a presentation at Manchester Grammar School to students in Years 11 to 13 with an interest in architecture. Partner Simon Critchley and Project Architect Vilte Kulikauskaite were also invited to take part in a careers fair at Butterstile Primary School, engaging with Year 1 and Year 6 pupils and introducing them to the exciting world of architecture and design. We’re always pleased to share our passion for the built environment with the younger generation, inspiring future architects and designers. #careers #careerfairs #schoolcareerfair #futurearchitects #architecture

Nobu has partnered with Salboy on Viadux Phase 2 in Manchester City Centre. Founded by Robert De Niro, Nobu Matsuhisa and Meir Teper, Nobu has 46 luxury hotels in cities around the world to date. This move will mark the brand’s debut in the UK’s property market. The hotel and restaurant will also be Nobu’s first in the UK outside of London. “Viadux Phase 2 will see the development of a beautiful and elegant mixed-use tower, which will help define the Manchester skyline,” Ian Simpson, Co-Founding Partner of SimpsonHaugh. SimpsonHaugh’s proposals for this 76-storey landmark tower builds upon the success of Viadux Phase 1, which reached completion last year. Our masterplan also includes around 130 affordable new homes within a 23-storey building, public realm enhancements and improved pedestrian connections to Deansgate-Castlefield Metrolink. “We are proud to include Manchester in our global collection, with its vibrant culture and growing global status,” Trevor Horwell, chief executive of Nobu Hospitality.
