Enabling the transformation of people's lives

About us

SOFEA was founded in 2014, with the focus of enabling people to transform their lives. We are a charity head quartered in Didcot with a second location added in Milton Keynes. Using surplus food, we distribute to thousands of people per week, across our local communities. We work with disadvantaged people, (mostly young people) helping them gain qualifications in English and Math, providing work experience and offering wellbeing support. Please feel free to contact us if you would like to find out further information on how you can support us. We offer corporate volunteering days, and various fund-raising events throughout the year. Updates

  • Recently the young people at our Milton Keynes site were paid a visit by Kayode from the charity Alternatives To Conflict who came to give a talk on the importance of finding healthy ways to resolve conflict as part of a Wellbeing Session for our learners. We'd like to thank Kayode and the rest of the staff from Alternatives To Conflict for all their helpful advice.

  • Ben Tuppen, Project Manager for Getting Oxfordshire Online, was pleased to join Greenalliance and other partners and refurbishers at the Houses of Parliament for the launch of their report 'Ending Digital Exclusion with Reused Devices'. Mary Creagh CBE MP responsible for circular economy gave an inspiring speech showing the Government’s commitment to this area, and we were delighted that our local MP, Olly Glover, came to offer his support as well. On behalf of everyone at SOFEA and Getting Oxfordshire Online, we'd like to thank everyone involved for their continued support in the fight against digital poverty.

  • The new Fitness Fusion project at SOFEEA’s Milton Keynes site provides young people with the opportunity to develop leadership skills through sport while earning sports leadership qualifications. This initiative, funded by the MK Community Foundation, offers a range of benefits, including the development of teamwork, confidence, and communication skills. Raekwarn Stapleton, a Life Coach Mentor at SOFEA who helped establish the project, said, “I have witnessed how this project has helped many of our young people come out of their shells, building their confidence while also providing them with a much needed opportunity to unwind and relax at the end of a busy week”. #miltonkeynescommunityfoundation #FitnessFusion #kickabout

  • SOFEA is looking for a Community Health and Wellbeing Worker to join our Didcot site. Community Health and Wellbeing Workers (CHWWs) are local people who care about the health of their community and those around them. The outreach work of a CHWW is essential in addressing the rising inequities in health and social care and in identifying unmet need in the community. • In the run up to Christmas, a group of our learners from the Didcot site travelled with staff to visit Laser Kombat to reward them for all their hard work this year. Some of our usual pre-Christmas activities couldn't happen this year due to the on-going flooding repairs at SOFEA's Didcot site, so we thought it was imperative that the young people had a really fun day out. A combination of Laser Kombat, bowling and playing pool was exactly what everyone needed. #LaserKombat #bowling #pool

  • Just before the end of term, a group of our Milton Keynes learners went to the The National SEA LIFE Centre Birmingham to help them relax after another busy term. As well as the educational value of the trip, it also gave our young people a chance overcome their anxieties surrounding public transport and travelling to new places. Of all the animals at the Sea Life Centre, our staff confirmed that the learners liked the otters the best. Janet, a learner on the trip, said, “This is the best school trip, I have ever been on and I want to go again next year! We really enjoyed the Sea Life centre and hanging out with our friends and staff.” #aquarium #animals #underthesea
