Delivering excellent water quality and reliable water supplies supported by a first-rate customer experience.

About us

South Staffs Water is a private water company formed in 1853 to provide water to the inhabitants of the Black Country. We supply a population of nearly 1.25 million, over an area of almost 1,490 square kilometres. Our area of supply stretches from the edge of Ashbourne in the north, to Halesowen in the south, and from Burton on Trent in the East to Kinver in the West. We operate 24 hours a day - trapping the rain that falls, controlling the amount of water taken from rivers and underground aquifers, treating the water so that it is safe to drink and then transporting a constant supply of water to homes, shops, offices, factories, hospitals and schools. When you turn on your tap, you are completing a cycle that has involved hundreds of people, many kilometres of water mains and millions of pounds of investment.

Over the last two days, members of our customer-facing teams have come together to review our current service to customers and share ideas on what we can do to improve.   As well as being committed to delivering high-quality and reliable water supplies, we are continuously looking at ways we can improve our communication with customers to make them aware of what we’re doing to improve our services and also, the support packages we offer to help make water bills more affordable to those who need support.   During the workshop, we discussed leakage, how we support customers during an incident and our systems to name a few.   Gary Kinsella, Interim Customer Delivery Director commented on the day: “There has been a lot of attention in the media on the service that water companies deliver, and we are aware that we need to work hard to rebuild some trust. By bringing our customer-facing teams together we will continue to place emphasis on the improvements we need to make for our customers.”    Read more about what our customer-facing teams do and what we’re working on: https://lnkd.in/eBAGdZpx   #NationalCustomerServiceWeek #CustomerDelivery #Water #WaterIndustry

Over the last seven weeks, we have been reviewing feedback from Ofwat on our 2025-2030 business plan proposal. As part of our plan, we are set to invest a record £19 million with the overarching aim of securing a sustainable water future for customers, communities and the environment. We are broadly happy with their assessment of our plans however, there are a small number of key points where we have asked for a review following further evidence we have provided. Ofwat is due to give final feedback in December, and we expect to be in dialogue with them until then to support in reaching the best decision for our customers, the environment and our wider stakeholders. #Water #WaterIndustry #Investment #DraftDetermination

Grow your own food whilst saving water 🥕💧 There are estimated to be 330,000 allotments across the UK, many of which are situated in our supply region. One of our technical operators at Seedy Mill Treatment Works, Ray Fletcher, is the chairman of an allotment in South Derbyshire and has spent the last four years supporting a community of plot owners, whilst tending to his own plants, produce and pigs! 🌼🐖 As well as being valuable community assets that provide sustainable growing spaces, allotments can boost health and well-being and promote biodiversity. Not only this, but they can also be spaces for water conservation 🚰 With over 16 years’ experience in the water industry, Ray helps to promote good water-saving practices at the allotment by ensuring all plots have water butts or IBCs (intermediate bulk containers) located within them. He has also installed pipes in parts of the vegetable patches to ensure water goes straight to the roots 🌱 Visit our website to find out more about how you can save water in the garden: https://lnkd.in/d3NW6pMZ #Gardening #WaterSaving #Allotments

Have you ever thought about recycling rice water? 🍚 As part of our Water Efficiency in Faith and Diverse Communities project, funded by Ofwat as part of the Breakthrough Challenge, we are looking at innovative ways to engage people from different cultures in water saving 💧 Following on from Reviving the Sunnah, our water conservation initiative engaging with members of the Muslim community in Cambridge to practice wudu using just one litre of water, we are looking at rice washing – a common cooking practice in South Asian communities 🍙 Many South Asian families wash rice before cooking, often between five to seven times 🚰 To explore this further, we teamed up with Ping Coombes, Malaysian Chef and MasterChef winner, and Coventry-based sustainable gardening charity, Garden Organic, to understand how much water could be saved from rice washing and the benefits recycling this water could bring to the garden 🌻 Watch our video below to hear from the industry experts! #Water #WaterSaving #RiceWashing #SouthAsianCooking
