For the fifth year running, the practice has been invited by Stone Federation Great Britain to design and curate an explorative natural stone exhibit, which showcases the material’s versatility and inherent sustainable qualities, as a centre piece of the Surface Design Show. Spotlighting the UK’s own indigenous materials alongside European counterparts, the immersive installation takes inspiration from the natural beauty and geometry of Giant’s Causeway to create a table arrangement with accompanying stools in a myriad of colours, tones and textures. Through considered manufacturing techniques, geometric offcuts have been repurposed into tabletop accessories, mitigating any material waste. The piece is a testament to the power of collaboration, with a host of suppliers and collaborators inputting their expertise and materials: Marble Collective Ltd, A F Jones Stone Interiors, Albion Stone plc, ALS by Airelimestones, Britannicus Stone, Hutton Stone Co Ltd, LSI Stone, Stamford Stone Co., and Welsh Slate. To celebrate the launch of the installation, Senior Partner Tim Gledstone will join the panel discussion “Designing with Stone – The Original Sustainable Surface” tomorrow on the Main Stage at 10.30am to talk about the value of stone and its ability to catalyse new design experiments. The Surface Design Show is open today and tomorrow and is free to attend. Find out more about the piece on our website: https://lnkd.in/eytKe_8e Photography by James Balston

Partner Murray Levinson spoke with Sleeper Magazine about the opening of art'otel Hoxton, a new 26-storey hotel in the heart of Shoreditch. Murray shared the story behind the design process, which went through 24 different iterations and has been 16 years in the making. "Space House manages an elusive combination that encapsulates the London zeitgeist – a contemporary workspace offering all mod cons; an acclaimed brutalist architecture heritage (by Richard Seifert & Partners, no less); a sustainable architecture certification; and a coveted central location in the heart of Covent Garden." Ellie Stathaki, architecture editor at Wallpaper* writes about the practice's retrofit of Space House for Seaforth, highlighting how the full design team has created "effortless transitions" between the old and new, "restoring, reconstructing and refreshing where needed". “Realising this ambitious retrofit and reaching new heights in the sustainable renovation of a listed building required an amazing client, consultant and construction team of doers, makers and believers with a vision.” Launching into 2025! As we lift off into the new year, we’re excited to share further coverage in both OnOffice magazine and New London Quarterly of Space House – the retrofit of a special and rare Grade II listed design icon. For the latest issue of onOffice, Mandi Keighran interviewed Senior Partner Tim Gledstone to learn more about celebrating the building’s original character whilst meeting the needs of contemporary workspace standards to create a “modern masterpiece that exemplifies sustainable retrofitting.” David Taylor also spotlighted the project for NLQ’s quarterly Building Review, taking a deep dive into the realisation of the ambitious reinvention and highlighting the importance of strong collaboration through insights and expert opinions from Tim, alongside those of Tyler Goodwin, developer and CEO of Seaforth Land, Andrew Murray, Technical Director of structural engineer Pell Frischmann, and M&E consultant Younha Rhee, Technical Director of Atelier Ten. Associate Partner and Interior Designer James Halliday was invited to speak at the inaugural HIX Event London as part of a panel discussion entitled “Hotels as Homes: Inside the residential revolution.” Describing our approach to the interior design of hospitality spaces, James spoke about creating a sustainable vision that doesn’t follow a fashion or a trend: “If you design to context and take cues from a project’s location and place, the end-result is timeless. You can’t argue with history! As designers we should avoid creating something that needs to be renewed in five years. Being timeless is fundamental to creating a sustainable final product.” https://lnkd.in/eaBvT4a6

Following the launch of our own Winter Windows at The Department Store, we are excited to reveal our work on the wider Brixton town centre winter lights strategy.... Over the past year, our talented Modelshop team has collaborated with Brixton Business Improvement District to repurpose all previous Winter Windows designs into a collection of bespoke lamppost lights, creating a legacy for the fantastic creativity of all the young people who have taken part in the community window installation project over the years. Named 'Winter Wonder Lights', 48 illuminated shapes designed by Lambeth-based students since 2017 have been mounted to lampposts across several key routes in Brixton, including Brixton High Street, Coldharbour Lane, Acre Lane and Atlantic Road. Overtime, more designs will be added to the collection to grow the piece and spread the joy of light to new corners of Brixton during the winter months. Produced by specialist lighting company Blachere Illumination UK , the lamppost mounted lights have been made using LED lights and coloured casings made from recycled plastic bottles.
