Earlier today, 8 of our team used their Giving Back Day to support London's Whitechapel Mission.   The team spent the morning cooking and serving food alongside the team from the charity.   We've been supporting Whitechapel Mission, for the past two years and it's always inspiring to see the team at work. The centre has been serving the homeless and marginalised for over 150 years, offering skills training, clothing, and careers advice.   Charitable initiatives like this are a core part of our Responsible Business Strategy.   #togetherwedeliver #volunteeringday #givingback #charitywork

Last week, we hosted students on the Stace Next Gen Programme.   Supported by the Construction Youth Trust, and providing an opportunity for college and sixth-form students to gain invaluable insight into careers within the Built Environment, the week kicked off with an employability skills workshop, led by the Construction Youth Trust.   Across the week, the participants joined our grads on the Graduate Development Scheme, and shadowed team members of all levels across our Building Surveying, Quantity Surveying, Project Management, and CDM/Health & Safety teams.   They gained first-hand experience, visiting live projects, including Wembley Park, a Tesco store in Epping, and joining BOUYGUES UK on site at the Ambulatory Diagnostic Centre at West Middlesex Hospital. We also gave the students plenty of opportunity to put their learning into practice through activities.   Thanks to all the students for their enthusiasm, and to all the mentors who supported them: Rosie Evans, Linzi Ruby, Kirsty Wilson, Lewis Tinham, Chris Tester, Zoe Playle MAPM, Fiona Layugan-Caliboso, Jessa Lee, Henry Way, Sasha Ellam-Brown, Daniel Foxwell-Jones, Dillon T. and Hannah Leigh Jarman. To support #NationalRecyclingWeek, our teams took part in litter-picking initiatives near our offices 🌍♻️ Our Epping team went to Bell Common in Epping Forest, the London team were joined by Storey and British Land at Hackney’s Allen Gardens, our Cambridge team cleaned up the area around our Fora office space and our Birmingham team hit the local streets to pick up litter. Yesterday, University of Reading alumni Joe Whybrow and Sehej Bhogal, joined Partner Stuart Syddell at the university's careers fair 📚🎓 Graduate Building Surveyor, Sehej Bhogal said: “Having graduated from university just three months ago, it felt like a full-circle moment to return and meet other aspiring students. Last night (17 October) a number of our team attended Real Estate Balance's event: The Legacy Project: Engendering Change for the Next Generation of Female Leaders in Real Estate, hosted by Simmons & Simmons. At the event, leaders from across the sector discussed the results of REB’s research (carried out by Granger Reis), which interviewed 170 female executives in real estate. The panel shared their views on gender balance, inclusive cultures, and strategies for supporting the next generation of female leaders. Katharine Flank BSc(hons) MRICS, Project Director said: “This was a thought-provoking session. The report identified that despite some improvements and a focus on diversity initiatives, the majority of respondents identified barriers to their progression, including a lack of clarity around promotion criteria, and a lack of visible female role models. Although strides have been made to improve things, the experience of senior women in the real estate sector and the numbers of senior women leaving the sector, does not reflect the progress and efforts being made in respect to diversity and company policy improvements, so there is still much work to do.” The report identifies key factors for improving opportunities for women in senior positions: 1. Flexible working policies 2. Promotion and recognition 3. Visible role models and male allyship 4. Build support systems and networks 5. On Tuesday (8 October), Partners Mark Ashby and Stuart Syddell attended the Movers & Shakers Property Networking Forum's 10th Build to Rent Forum in London. Bringing together leaders, influencers, and change-makers in the UK property industry, the event explored the role rented living could play in the government's ambitious plan to build 1.5 million homes in the next 5 years. "Whilst it was clear from all those who spoke and attended the day that the challenges in the sector remain, the optimism at this year’s forum was evident. The new government’s housing targets have given renewed hope for the future of the sector. It was also great to connect with clients and consultants who attended the day," said Stuart Syddell.

Yesterday, some of our people attended a great event hosted by Real Estate Balance and Sodexo 🙌 In honour of Black History Month, the organisations set out to celebrate the contributions of Black professionals to UK real estate and also discuss topics related to inclusion and representation. Marketing Executive, Beatrice Fatusin shared her thoughts on the event: “It was wonderful to witness the success of diverse individuals in the real estate industry and to have the opportunity to learn from their experiences.
