It was an absolute privilege to show the RIBA South West jury around our Story of Emily Museum project last week. Being able to share the story of Emily Hobhouse through this collection of buildings makes it all so worth it!

The final day of the RIBA South West awards jury visits, has been a fitting finale to the week. It has been a joy to be welcomed into all of the shortlisted buildings and to briefly experience the exceptional architectural projects. Special thanks to the clients and owners, for their generosity, giving the jury access and their time. Visiting the final two projects, of the thirteen strong shortlist, we have been treated again to thoughtful and skillfully orchestrated pieces of architectural design. The friendly and informed descriptions of the projects, given by the architects and clients, showed a sensitivity for the sprint of each location, as well as skillfully considered responses to the objectives of each project. Congratulations to the project teams for their part in creating these special projects. Our Emily Hobhouse Museum project has been shortlisted for this year’s @riba South West and Wessex regional awards! 💃🏼🍷 The Story of Emily Museum celebrates the life of humanitarian Emily Hobhouse, who campaigned against the UK’s use of concentration camps in the Boer War. Located in her birthplace, the east Cornish village of St Ive, the museum site encompasses the rectory where she grew up in addition to a collection of new build and rebuilt elements. The museum building houses the War Rooms, an immersive exhibition that tells the story of the Anglo-Boer War and Hobhouse’s involvement in it as an activist. This was a special project to be involved in with such innovators across design, installation and manufacturing like GL&SS, Cantifix Ltd and sedak GmbH & Co. KG.

Sporting history Our brief for this project in Somerset was to provide a nationally significant cultural and sporting venue within a velodrome. An immersive and informative museum space celebrating the history of cycling sits adjacent to a track cycling venue worthy of international competition. This unique pairing aimed to inspire local and national participation in cycling at all levels.
