🌿 Reflections on: The Business Case for Nature 🌿 Great to be at The Business Case for Nature workshop this week, hosted by the Green Finance Institute (GFI) at the Spielman Centre in Bristol! The event sparked some really valuable discussions on how businesses can better integrate nature into their strategies and build long-term resilience. With insights from Rathbones Group Plc as to how nature is relevant to business resilience and GFI Hive on the sustainability disclosures landscape, delegates were able to evaluate some really inspiring project pitches case studies from the NEIRF project showcase. Our Head of Development and Planning, Dan Day-Robinson, who recently joined us, has shared some of his thoughts from the insightful meeting: 'The GFI Business Case for Nature workshop was a fantastic opportunity for like-minded professionals to exchange, connect and learn from new ideas and investment opportunities in the natural capital space. Businesses see the scope for nature recovery, resilience and financial/business avenues, where 'green' has evolved beyond just corporate social responsibility, to its own asset class. As a non-profit organisation, GFI are leading the way in shaping how the private sector can play a role in the transition to an economy that values and invests in nature.’ #Sustainability #Biodiversity #NatureInBusiness #EnvironmentalResilience #BusinessCaseForNature #Sustainability #Biodiversity #greenfinance #neirf #ResponsibleDevelopment #greenfinanceinstitute #naturalcapital #TACP

🐾 Otter Citizen Science Project! 🐾 We’re back in 2025 and delighted to share our recent involvement in the Otter Citizen Science Project! Funded by the Nature Networks Fund via The National Lottery Heritage Fund and expertly led by the Pen Llŷn a’r Sarnau Special Areas of Conservation (SAC), hosted by Gwynedd Council on behalf of the Llywodraeth Cymru / Welsh Government. The initiative is part of the Welsh Partnership of MPAs, a collaboration of five large SACs working together to enhance the entire MPA network through shared expertise and innovative projects. They are also advancing initiatives on water quality, litter, and marine mammal disturbance. The project has been an exciting opportunity to deepen our understanding of otter habitats along Wales’ coastlines and estuaries, particularly in Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). Otters are fascinating creatures that connect land and sea ecosystems. While traditional monitoring has focused on freshwater habitats, this project aimed to uncover the secrets of their coastal journeys. By updating coastal otter data, we can: ✅Inform better management practices for MPAs. ✅Address key challenges like prey quality, contaminants, and habitat resilience. ✅Highlight the critical link between otters and water quality, fostering greater awareness of land-sea connectivity. Training Citizen Scientists At the heart of the work was empowering citizen scientists to play an active role in conservation. TACP (UK) Ltd Ltd has been busy working alongside specialist Lee Jenkins, founder of the South Wales Otter Trust in providing: 🔎Comprehensive Training: Lee has made sure volunteers were equipped with the skills and confidence to analyse otter habitats, whilst recording sightings, spraint and prints. ⚙️Essential Tools: From survey kits to risk assessments, it’s been essential to ensure every volunteer is prepared for fieldwork. 🤝Ongoing Support: Our team Jamie Nicholson-Grime and Zoe Maddocks Dodson have been there at every step, offering guidance, feedback, and resources to help volunteers succeed. These efforts are more than just logistical; they create a knowledgeable and motivated community invested in protecting the natural world. Why It Matters Engaging volunteers doesn’t just provide essential data—it builds stronger connections between communities and nature. Participants develop new skills, contribute to scientific knowledge, and foster a deeper understanding of the delicate balance between land and sea. This collaborative effort will culminate in detailed site reports, offering actionable insights into how we can better support coastal otters and their ecosystems. We’re inspired by the enthusiasm of everyone involved and can’t wait to see the impact of this work. 🦦 #OtterScience #CitizenScience #Sustainability #MarineConservation #WelshEnvironment
