In recent weeks, the UNFCCC warned the world is on track to warm up to 3.1°C, the UN Environment Programme called for global mobilisation to avoid climate catastrophe and the International Energy Agency (IEA) projected we're still going to fall short of the COP28 goal to triple renewable capacity. Our Executive Director for Governments and Policy Champa Patel spoke with the BBC News about: ⭕ Why NDCs are off-track and how short-term priorities are hindering action on our long-term needs. ⭕ What needs to happen at #COP29 in Baku. From how to ensure NDCs are ambitious, to determining access to climate finance and the role of fossil fuels. ⭕ Why we can't lose hope. It's not going to be easy, and it involves trade-offs but it all comes down to the societies and communities we want to live in. The message is clear: It's Time. We can't afford to waste another year. We can’t keep making ambitious commitments but then only half implementing them.

As #COP29Azerbaijan approaches, we look at a sector where CO2 emissions are growing faster than almost anywhere else. It’s transport – and with three quarters of those emissions being caused by road transport, a transition to electric vehicles (EVs) is one of the greatest opportunities we have at cutting emissions. Fast. But how can the EV transition become a truly global one? Dominic Phinn, Climate Group’s Head of Transport, was at #ClimateWeekNYC to discuss the clean transport future with business and government leaders. Here are his key takeaways: https://lnkd.in/e-dfw7fh From inspiring sessions with Rebecca Fisher, Director of the Drive Electric Campaign; Liane Randolph, Chair of California Air Resources Board; Rajneesh Kumar Patel, SVP at Flipkart; Vanessa Butani, Head of Global Sustainability at Volvo Cars; Colette Honorable, Executive Vice President, Public Policy and Chief External Affairs Officer, Exelon Corporation; Andrés Gluski, President & CEO, The AES Corporation, and Jon Hoekstra, Senior Vice President of Global Sustainability at Prologis. #ElectricVehicles #EV #CleanTransportFuture
