The built environment is not on track to reach #netzero by 2050. The sector holds immense potential for climate action, but we do not yet have enough policy ambition to address the urgency of #climatechange. As leaders come together for the UN Climate Conference #COP29 in just a few weeks, it’s vital that the #builtenvironment is a cornerstone of the conversations. Buildings have a significant role to play in the protection and restoration of #biodiversity and ecosystems. But what role can sustainable finance play? With the Convention on Biological Diversity #COP16Colombia currently underway, it’s time to recognise the current unequal relationship between humans and ecosystems, and plan how we can make #PeaceWithNature.   The #EUTaxonomy provides criteria for economic activities to identify if they are aligned with climate and environmental goals. We're getting ready for the World Urban Forum (#WUF12) and you’re invited to join us. On 7 November 2024, 13:00 EET, WorldGBC and OECD Development Centre will co-host an event at this annual global conference, dedicated to sustainable urbanisation, held in Cairo, Egypt. The in person event ‘Pathways to Net Zero: System innovations for emerging urban centres and zero carbon readiness in Middle East and Africa’ will take a tour through the systemic challenges we face in urban planning across the region when it comes to achieving sustainable and resilient built environments in developing countries.
