Transition Plan Taskforce reposted this
Today is the last day of the TPT's mandate from the UK government - and what an incredible journey it has been. When HMT first asked E3G to co-host the TPT Secretariat with UK Centre for Greening Finance and Investment (CGFI) none of us knew what adventures lay ahead, it has truly been a roller coaster ride and I am so proud of all that the Transition Plan Taskforce (TPT) has achieved. For me personally this has been an extraordinary and rewarding journey. As market and policy momentum grows around planning for transition, the final report provides a mini-stocktake of developments on both fronts and also explains the next steps following the decision of the IFRS Foundation to take responsibility for the TPT's Disclosure Framework and associated guidance documents . As the mandate closes, thanks are due to so many people for the key roles that they have played. Starting with Amanda Blanc and her HMT Co-Chair (now Tulip Siddiq) and all the members of the TPT Steering Group. And also, all those who participated in the TPT's Delivery Group, Workstreams, Working Groups, and Sandbox. TPT became a huge multi-stakeholder community of practice and quite literally hundreds of people contributed so much to this effort. From the perspective of the Secretariat, Ben Caldecott and I maintained a strong partnership throughout this mission, and we built a Secretariat team of the very best, led by Jacques Morris and on an interim basis over the summer by Ira Poensgen who has also been the Technical Lead throughout. The work of Kate Ryan to lead international engagement, and of Nina Pimblett and Ben Gilbey leading sectoral work has also been key. I'm delighted that key Secretariat staff members will remain with E3G and will continue to work on transition plans including in support of the new International Transition Plan Network supported by a team led by Jacques Morris. Numerous former TPT Secretariat members , including the secondees that we are lucky enough to work with in this effort, also played crucial roles and we are pleased to see that them build on their related work in other organisations. I hope TPT participants and collaborators will forgive me for not tagging many more names in this post - there are so many, and it is impossible to draw the line as to who to include. But to all involved in the Taskforce, the wider TPT community, the Secretariat, thank you all for your passion, support, and collaboration - and congratulations on a meaningful contribution that really made a difference.

We share the interview with Mary Schapiro, Amanda Blanc, and David Schwimmer, members of the TPT Steering Group, in the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) Newsletter. They provided insights on the International Sustainability Standards Board's plans to utilise disclosure-specific materials developed by the Transition Plan Taskforce and the challenges in #transitionplan disclosure. By transferring these materials, we are confident that businesses will continue to have access to high-quality, comparable disclosures. This will facilitate more informed capital allocation and greater transparency in sustainability efforts, marking significant progress for the broader transition planning landscape: https://lnkd.in/dC4V-wHB
Our September 2024 Newsletter featured an in-depth interview with our Vice Chair and Head of Secretariat, Mary Schapiro, alongside Amanda Blanc, CEO of Aviva, and David Schwimmer, CEO of LSEG (London Stock Exchange Group). They discussed the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB)’s plans to use disclosure-specific materials developed by the UK’s Transition Plan Taskforce, drawing on components identified by GFANZ. Mary provided context on how GFANZ’s framework influenced these materials to help firms across the world provide consistent information about their transition plans. Meanwhile, David Schwimmer noted such work demonstrates the huge international effort required to establish a common global sustainability language. Amanda Blanc added that the ISSB’s decision is fantastic news, showing the strength of GFANZ’s transition planning framework developed alongside HSBC, LSEG, and NatWest. The plans should speed up the pace of transition planning but also ensure that they are of a higher, more consistent quality.
