OW Ocean Winds UK

Wind Electric Power Generation

DELIVERING THE GREEN RECOVERY WITH THE UK

About us

Ocean Winds is grounded on the strength of two global brands in combination – EDP Renewables and ENGIE. The Joint Venture has a proven UK market track record of delivery in the Moray East project, one of the country’s largest offshore windfarms. Ocean Winds has been at the forefront of cost reduction through innovation creating benefit to consumers as a result of the record low Contract for Difference (CfD) award in 2017 for Moray East of £57.50/MWh. Moray West is in the construction phase having reached Financial Close in April 2023. The first power is due in 2024 and the wind farm will be fully operational in 2025. Higher transmission charges for northern projects must be reformed to enable Moray West and other northern projects to deliver economic continuity for ‘levelling up’ and the post Covid recovery.

🆕 New energy chapter in the UK: Yesterday marked the official launch of the new National Energy System Operator! OW Ocean Winds is pleased to be featured in their launch video! 📽 Our colleagues, Sarah Graham and Jamie Dempster, effectively highlighted NESO’s role in strengthening the UK’s energy infrastructure and advancing the transition to a cleaner energy system, showcasing OW's role in this energy transition. 🌬 With a 6 GW portfolio of offshore wind projects in the UK, OW’s involvement underscores our commitment to supporting national industry advancements, the positive impact of offshore wind, and fostering collaborative efforts that benefit the broader sector. We look to the new NESO to take bold actions that accelerate the fundamental network upgrades required for the rapid deployment of clean electricity generation. The coordinated system planning and connections management that the NESO will now oversee needs to provide developers with greater commercial certainty in order to attract the investment in offshore wind development that is needed to deliver the UK’s clean power mission. ⚡ Thank you, NESO, for this opportunity—we look forward to seeing the impact of your work! #ProudtobeOW #RenewableEnergy #OffshoreWind

Cleaner energy tomorrow needs a whole system view today and NESO has been set up to deliver a sustainable, affordable future for everyone. 🎬 Watch Your Future, part two of our NESO launch. ⬇ Find out more: https://bit.ly/3Y3hkZm

📢 Calling all innovators 📢 | OW Ocean Winds is partnering up with Innovate UK to launch 4 offshore wind farm efficiency challenges! At OW Ocean Winds, we're excited to partner with UK Research and Innovation - a national funding agency investing in science and research in the UK –through the Innovate UK project. This collaboration will support projects like the CALEDONIA Offshore Wind Farm and our global portfolio. By leveraging the department's methodology, we aim to push boundaries and bring fresh ideas to the rapidly evolving offshore wind sector. Aligned with our vision for a sustainable energy future, we are targeting three core areas where innovation can make a difference: 👉 Energy Assessment & Metocean: Improving wind resource measurements through advanced atmospheric data collection. 👉 Fixed Foundations: Revolutionizing subsea surveys with 3D ultra-high-resolution techniques to reduce risks and costs early in development. 👉 Environmental Impact: Innovating in underwater environmental monitoring and promoting marine biodiversity around floating wind farms. Initiatives like this bridge local relationships with global leaders, as proven by Moray Firth in Scotland—where over a decade of thriving partnerships showcases the power of these connections! As John Ransford, the Knowledge Transfer Manager at Innovate UK put it, “Developing offshore wind farms to deliver clean energy is crucial to the future of our environment and energy requirements as a society and we are looking forward to working with Ocean Winds to help them deliver on their objectives.” 🌱🌍 Join us in creating solutions that enhance efficiency, minimize environmental impact, and unlock the full potential of offshore wind farms! 👉 https://lnkd.in/dT4jEkVx #ProudtobeOW #Innovation #OffshoreWind #EnergyTransition

📣 Great milestone achieved! Today marked the inauguration of our Operations & Maintenance (O&M) base for our Moray West project in Buckie, Moray, with The Rt Hon. John Swinney MSP, First Minister of The Scottish Government, in attendance. Our Moray West project is advancing effectively through its construction phase and will inject over £800 million into the local economy, creating more than 1,500 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) years of jobs during this period. This new facility will be key to the operation of our project as we remain focused on achieving our final goal: full power!⚡ Spanning 2,000 m², this new O&M base includes offices, warehousing, and training facilities, while supporting the installation of 60 monopile foundations and wind turbines, the largest in UK waters. 🌬 But that’s not all! The redeveloped quayside is fully equipped with pontoons, cranes, and fuel storage, and will soon handle up to 100 weekly vessel movements when operations reach full capacity. Most importantly, this project has generated over 60 local jobs, showcasing our ongoing commitment to the community and the region. 👷♀️ 👷♂️ Our OW team members Craig Windram, CEO, Adam Morrison, UK Country Manager, and Jamie Dempster, Senior O&M Manager for Moray West, joined in celebrating this milestone.
