The second day of Mobile World Congress is coming to a close, and although most of the big announcements on what was to be displayed at the event this year happened in the past couple of days there were still some big things to take away from day 2. ASUS for example was likely the biggest manufacturer to announce something today. Showcasing three new smartphones in its lineup, which includes the ZenFone 5, the ZenFone 5Q (known as the ZenFone 5 Lite globally), and the ZenFone 5Z, which is going to be the company’s flagship smartphone for this year.
Keeping things on par with the other top-tier smartphones which have been announced so far, the ZenFone 5Z will come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor so it will be plenty powerful for anything from multi-tasking to games, and it also comes with some pretty interesting intelligent camera features that are powered by A.I. to help with scene detection. In addition to the new phones from ASUS which were announced earlier this morning, Google made an announcement that it would be expanding its Actions on Google to 16 more languages which will ultimately make it more accessible and should make it more useful across the board.
In a perhaps surprising announcement, Chinese company Coolpad announced that it will have some new devices coming which are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear processor, which means these will be new wearable devices to look out for, a category of technology which has not been the focus of this year’s event like it has in past years. Google also highlighted all of the Android Go and Android One-related products and announcements which have been announced at Mobile World Congress 2018 so as to keep things fresh in the minds of interested consumers or anyone who may have missed the initial announcements. 5G has also continued to be a big focus at this year’s event, with T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, Qualcomm, and others mentioning some of their plans for rolling out 5G networks. T-Mobile for example, plans to roll out 5G networks to 30 cities by the end of 2018, while both Verizon and AT&T have vowed to be the first U.S. carrier to deploy 5G out to their subscribers.
