AASHTO and its members thank Administrator Bhatt for his commitment to delivering a better quality of life to communities across the country through safer, more multimodal, and equitable transportation systems. He's been a tireless transportation advocate for decades and we are stronger not just because of his excellent leadership at FHWA, but also within the state DOT community for many years before that. We thank him for his partnership and wish him well on his next endeavor!
Today, we say farewell to Administrator Shailen Bhatt, whose unwavering commitment to safety—particularly for vulnerable road users—has defined his tenure. From day one, he has been driven in the pursuit of saving lives. What stands out most is his personal hope that his daughters will see a future with zero road fatalities—a vision we all strive to achieve. Through his leadership and implementation of the transformative #BipartisanInfrastructureLaw, Administrator Bhatt has overseen unprecedented investment in our nation’s infrastructure, providing critical funding and deploying innovation to deliver projects that save lives and make people’s lives better. This includes implementing the first-ever dedicated climate title in a transportation bill and harnessing technology to ensure we are building a resilient 21st century transportation network. Administrator Bhatt also led FHWA’s coordinated response to significant emergencies that arose during his tenure. From the Francis Scott Key bridge tragedy in Baltimore to the I-95 fire in Philadelphia and the many natural disasters that have struck our nation, FHWA’s efforts have strengthened Americans’ belief that the federal government will be there in their time of need. Thank you, Administrator Bhatt, for your leadership and your tireless dedication to public service. FHWA remains committed to continuing the work you've inspired.
