We’re proud to be working with the BEDFORD & MILTON KEYNES WATERWAY TRUST to assess the feasibility of the 26km Bedford and Milton Keynes Waterway Park, linking the River Great Ouse in Bedford to the Grand Union Canal in Milton Keynes. This transformative project will enhance flood resilience, improve biodiversity, and create new opportunities for recreation and tourism. By moving water from wetter areas to the drier east, it will play a crucial role in climate adaptation and water management. Our team is investigating the first 2km section near Bedford, analysing land conditions, utilities, and infrastructure needs to turn this long-awaited vision into reality. Great insights from Beverley Stinson on why Ireland needs a more strategic approach to infrastructure delivery. The challenges — whether in water, transport, or energy — can’t be solved with one-off projects. We need a programmatic approach that ensures resilience, efficiency and long-term impact. This is especially true in the water sector. Ireland is water-rich, yet supply doesn’t always match demand. Climate change is only adding pressure — flooding in some areas, water scarcity in others. Tackling these challenges requires a coordinated, long-term strategy. Read Bev's blog here and learn about her excitement for Ireland's potential to become a global leader in sustainable, strategic infrastructure delivery: https://lnkd.in/gAhfwRU3
At the launch of #AECOM’s Ireland Annual Review 2025, I joined industry experts to discuss the future of infrastructure — spanning housing, transport, energy, healthcare, and water. It was encouraging to see water recognized as a critical enabler of economic and social progress. After all, without resilient water infrastructure, growth simply isn’t possible. But water is just one piece of the puzzle. To meet Ireland’s evolving infrastructure needs, we must shift our approach — moving beyond isolated projects to embrace programmatic thinking. By delivering infrastructure in a more strategic, coordinated, and efficient way, we can create long-term, sustainable solutions that truly support communities and economies. I was so inspired and energized by the discussion that I wrote up my thoughts in this blog. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/ejSqdPQx Would love to hear your thoughts. How can we better integrate infrastructure planning for a more resilient future?

We are proud to feature in Water Power Magazine for our role in the Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme - a £200 million project protecting homes, businesses, and communities from future flooding. Will Barnett, our Director of Water (UK & Ireland), explains why this scheme is so important: “Wetter winters, drier summers and increased rainfall linked to climate change means that many parts of the UK – including Leeds – are at greater risk of flooding over time. The Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme sets a new standard for integrating traditional engineering methods and nature-based solutions at a catchment-wide scale. As technical advisor to Leeds City Council, fostering collaborative partnerships across the wider delivery team has been key to the project’s success. We’re proud to have played our part in the delivery of this critical flood defence project, reducing the risk of flooding to the people, homes and businesses of Leeds for decades to come.” Find out more about how this project is shaping the future of flood resilience: https://lnkd.in/eVDQVyjQ International Water Power & Dam Construction | Environment Agency | BAM UK & Ireland | Mott MacDonald #FloodResilience #NatureBasedSolutions

Really enjoyed this conversation on nature based solutions to flooding hosted by AECOM. Heard about them and want to know more - well give it a listen.
With more frequent storms, sewer overflows are spilling into UK waterways, increasing flood risks and pollution. Traditional approaches—bigger pipes and storage tanks—can only go so far. But what if we worked with nature instead to solve the problem? In our latest episode of Talking Infrastructure, Simon Parsons of Scottish Water, Paddy Brow of Northern Ireland Water and AECOM's Hannah Howe discuss why the momentum is shifting towards blue-green infrastructure. Tune in now to learn about the projects already making an impact across the UK—and what it will take to scale them up: https://lnkd.in/eRvrVYQZ #AECOM #Water
