It’s July and summer is in full swing! The weather is heating up, BBQ season is upon us, and kids are on summer vacation. But Oregon employers know that July 1 also brings a new minimum wage. This year, all rates are increasing by $.50, with the state’s minimum wage rising from $14.20/hour to $14.70/hour, Portland metro’s rate changing from $15.45/hour to $15.95/hour, and Nonurban counties’ rate is going from $13.20/hour to $13.70/hour. Archbright members are kept informed of rising minimum wage rates as soon as they are announced. Interested in learning about changing regulations when they are hot off the press? As temperatures continue to increase across the country, employers must remember to protect workers from heat-related illnesses. ⚠️☀️ Proactive measures such as acclimatizing employees to warm weather work, providing shaded areas to rest and cool drinking water, and training to recognize the signs and symptoms of heat illnesses are crucial for employee safety. While OSHA has only just begun the rulemaking process for a federal standard, many states like California, Oregon, and Washington have existing heat rules. Archbright members can learn about these state requirements by finding their state's Heat Illness Prevention Plan Quickstart in the mozzo Resource Library, along with many other resources to meet state compliance and help protect employees. Members with specific questions are encouraged to contact one of our Safety Consultants via mozzo Chat.
