"Every future U.S. #election will be highly consequential for AUKUS. However, two things make this November’s election particularly important. It will be the first political test of sustained U.S. political commitment to AUKUS. Whichever candidate wins will be inheriting an agreement they did not sign." Asia Society Australia CEO Anthony Bubalo and Research Associate Dominique Fraser share insights from #Australia on what’s at stake for #AUKUS in the upcoming presidential election. 🇦🇺🇬🇧🇺🇸 #ASPIBallotBox Swipe for more insights and read the full essay here: https://lnkd.in/g6-iUqky

"America is a melting pot, but this is what I mean by getting out of our own way and unlocking the talent that we have. A huge advantage to us. You don't have an Anglo-American diplomat from China coming and talking to me. But we can have people who speak Mandarin fluently, who understand China intuitively, and go there and communicate on behalf of the United States of America. I think that's a huge asset to us." - Former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun Watch his full conversation with former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman and ASPI VP Danny Russel on the future of U.S. leadership in #Asia and the world: https://lnkd.in/eV-XmpaF

"In either outcome, the allies must work to forge a future that does not solely revolve around #Washington’s treaty commitments, but rather integrate those potentially diminishing guarantees into a broader, more comprehensive, and diversified security landscape." 🇺🇸🇰🇷🇯🇵 Emma Chanlett-Avery, Duyeon Kim, and Yuka KOSHINO (越野結花) explore U.S. alliance relations in Northeast Asia, noting that both #Tokyo and #Seoul have concerns about maintaining the international rules-based order with U.S. leadership increasingly looking inward. #ASPIBallotBox 👉 Swipe for key insights and read the full essay here: https://lnkd.in/eeCTuePg

We’re still buzzing with excitement and feel absolutely inspired after last night’s Asia Game Changer Awards! A wonderful celebration of our incredible honorees, who contribute vital work across the fields of journalism, advocacy, music, film, and comedy and have strengthened bonds between #Asia and the world. At the ceremony, honoring Christiane Amanpour, Bowen Yang, Bang Si-Hyuk, Chai Vasarhelyi & Jimmy Chin, and The Asian American Foundation (TAAF), Asia Society President & CEO Dr. Kyung-wha Kang said, “Tonight’s honorees have each deepened our sense of humanity in very meaningful ways: reporting the issues of the day, making films that represent life and history, advocating for the Asian American community, elevating K-pop and Korean culture, and making people laugh.” During her acceptance speech, award-winning journalist Amanpour noted that Asia Society founder John D. Rockefeller 3rd created Asia Society to teach Americans more about Asia, which is a mission she connected with. “I really wanted to tell the story of the world to Americans. The idea of [laying] the groundwork for peace and harmony and understanding is clearly needed now more than ever.” Academy® Award-nominated actress Stephanie Hsu presented comedian and SNL cast member Bowen Yang, who reflected on growing up as a Chinese-American. “To be Asian is to immediately understand the expanse of all things. Being part of an identity that is so broad, you are very aware of how you are sharing the world with so many other people,” he said. "Part of what I think we're talking to Americans about is we are not decoupled or disconnected from China in terms of our economy or from others in terms of our economy...We have to make sure we are not reliant on those economic trends, that we are not fully reliant on the patterns of #globalization, that we make sure that we have enough for ourselves, but our greatness is because we are the strong country, we are the great economy, we are the great military that we are, and we are not disconnected from the rest of the world." - Former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman Watch her full conversation with former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun and ASPI VP Danny Russel on the future of U.S. leadership in #Asia and the world: https://lnkd.in/eV-XmpaF
