Dr. Mark Mewissen and his team at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center performed the first LimFlow procedure in recent days, marking a first in Milwaukee and in Aurora Health Care history. The minimally invasive procedure restores blood flow to the feet in patients who are at risk of limb loss, secondary to severe peripheral vascular disease. Patients recommended for the LimFlow procedure have exhausted all other endovascular and surgical options. LimFlow’s main competitor is a below the knee amputation, as there is no other FDA approved product for this type of limb salvage. Congratulations to everyone at Aurora St. Luke’s for continuing to find ways to improve the lives of our patients. Learn more about our vascular services: https://bit.ly/3Xm0gxk

We teamed up with the Milwaukee Brewers to bring a taste of the ballpark to Aurora’s Walker’s Point Community Clinic with a surprise visit from third baseman Andruw Monasterio. Ahead of Hispanic Heritage Day presented by Aurora Health Care, Andruw made a special delivery of the exclusive shirts that are available for Brewers fans with the purchase of a special ticket package for the September 22 game. Founded in 1992, Aurora’s Walker’s Point Community Clinic is the largest free clinic in Wisconsin, specializing in providing multilingual and culturally sensitive care. Thanks for stopping by and go Brewers! See more from this surprise visit with WDJT CBS 58: https://bit.ly/3T9sBnZ

Delaney Verba, Nurse of the Year – Aurora St. Luke’s South Shore, advocates for evidence-based nursing practice in the Emergency Department (ED), always ensuring peers are aware of new nursing practice initiatives. She is an outstanding role model and a strong team lead, excelling specifically as a triage nurse. Delaney believes being an ED nurse is about making life-saving differences. It’s about being there to help strangers at a critical time. Being an ED nurse means being someone who patients and families turn to – and trust – during life-threatening situations. We’re excited to share that history has been made with accreditation of the Aurora Graduate Medical Education’s Chiropractic Residency Program, as we are the very first, private, integrated health care system-based program in the U.S. to receive this accreditation! The Aurora Health Care Integrated Clinical Practice Chiropractic Residency Program (AHC ICPCRP) has been awarded programmatic accreditation by The Council on Chiropractic Education. Program Director, Eric Kirk, DC, DACO, began envisioning this program in 2019 and, with the support of the Graduate Medical Education program, mobilized it with its first class in 2022. “There are so many people to thank for their support and efforts to build this program. I could not be more grateful for our graduate medical education team and the physician collaborators that contributed toward the development and continued growth of this program. It delivers an educational experience that builds a collaborative spirit between chiropractors and other medical professionals, and in doing so, enhances the clinical decision making and patient care experience for all who participate within the program,” Dr. Kirk shares. Virtual nursing developed during the COVID-19 pandemic as a solution to a problem: more patients, fewer staff and the stress of treating a new disease meant nurses needed support. Since then, it’s become a clear road to the future of nursing, improving efficiency, nurse well-being and patient safety and Advocate Health is paving the way. “We started four years ago using baby monitors on a few units and now 22 hospitals in the Advocate Health network use virtual nurses to manage admissions and discharges,” says Patricia Mook, senior vice president, enterprise nursing operations, education and professional development for Advocate Health. “We’ve already assisted more than 31 thousand patients across the six states where we practice and any new hospital construction will include the capacity to implement virtual care technology because we know it helps our teams be more efficient and ensures our patients receive the safest care possible.” But it’s not about having the right technology. It’s about how you use it. That’s why Advocate Health nurse leaders like Mook are sharing their expertise on what to do and what not to do when deploying virtual nursing programs. Their knowledge ensures that we utilize these tools to their fullest potential, improving both the quality and safety of patient care. Read more: https://bit.ly/4dOdIzd
