Private health care providers play an important but often overlooked role in providing a complete picture of health information that health officials rely on for decision making at all levels of the health system. In #Niger, the Ministry of Health (MOH) largely focused on public health facility staff, leaving private sector health workers without training to correctly enter data into their facilities’ registries and the national #HealthInformationSystem (HIS). To address this challenge, CHISU is supporting the MOH’s Directorate of Statistics to train health workers at private facilities in the Zinder and Maradi Regions to strengthen data entry compliance. Over 160 health workers from private practice received training to advance the skills and knowledge on how to use the country’s HIS, hosted in #DHIS2, and update records that include new variables that have been added to health registers. With these new skills, private sector health workers are now entering data into the relevant health information systems, providing health officials with an accurate view of the facility-level health data that guides decision-making.

About us
The Country Health Information Systems and Data Use (CHISU) program is USAID’s flagship data and information system project. CHISU supports country efforts to strengthen collaboration and alignment around priorities for stronger, more resilient, and efficient health information systems and data use—essential if we are to achieve progress at scale. JSI leads CHISU with partners RTI International, Vital Strategies, Pendulum, Jembi Health Systems, and Global Evaluation and Monitoring Network for Health (GEMNet-Health).

The #malaria situation in #Kenya has evolved, requiring updates to how the country approaches prevention and control interventions. We hosted a workshop with the Kenya Ministry of Health, Kenya, the National Malaria Control Programme, and other in-country stakeholders in April 2024 to review and discuss existing analytical approaches to estimating malaria intervention effectiveness and developing malaria stratification maps that will be included in the new Kenya Malaria Strategy. During the workshop, we also co-developed a sustainable analytical framework to inform ongoing malaria control and prevention activities across the country.

In #Côted’Ivoire, we provided technical assistance to the Coordination Directorate of the Expanded Vaccination Program (DCPEV) to develop integrated vaccination data collection tools. The integrated tools facilitate routine, COVID-19, and malaria vaccination data collection. Specifically, we supported DCPEV to conduct a pilot phase in two districts to evaluate the tools’ effectiveness in managing routine and COVID-19 vaccination data. Following the pilot phase, developers made adjustments to optimize the tools, and DCPEV validated the revised tools to be deployed nationally.

In #Madagascar, we supported the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) to update its Malaria Elimination Plan 2023-2027 to guide stakeholders in coordinating and monitoring #malaria elimination progress. These updates ensure that interventions are aligned with the country’s new Malaria National Strategic Plan 2023-2027 to address emerging challenges, such as resistance to mosquito nets and changing patterns of mosquito malaria vectors.
