The facility is set to benefit Communities In Schools of Nevada and Boys & Girls Club of Southern Nevada 🎉 "This new youth center in northeast Las Vegas will be a beacon of support for our Communities In Schools alumni, offering career development resources, job search assistance, professional learning, mentorship opportunities, and more,” said Debbie Palacios, Executive Director of CIS of Southern Nevada. We are so proud of this recent CIS graduate in the Class of 2024! Folu is headed to Duke University this fall on a full scholarship - amazing! Yet we already know what Duke University will soon experience for itself... that Folu Adenuga is an AMAZING young woman who is going to change the world! 🌍💪 Folu graduated from East Mecklenburg High School where she participated in CIS with Site Coordinator Carlea Atkinson. Last year she was selected for our #DifferenceMakersCLT program. It was through this special leadership program where Folu met community leaders who mentored her as she navigated the college admissions process, and in particular supported her desire to apply to Duke University, one of the country's most prestigious universities. 🏀It was a slam dunk of a week for CIS! Shaquille O'Neal, member of the CIS national board of directors and founder of The Shaquille O'Neal Foundation, announced exciting plans for the country’s first-ever CIS Alumni Center! The facility, which will be located in the northeast valley, will also benefit K-12 students within the CIS and Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada programs with the resources they need to succeed. 🎒Following the announcement, the excitement continued with the annual “Shaq-to-School” event where hundreds of underserved students received custom Shaq-packs filled with school supplies and enjoyed snacks and fun activities. 🫶We have so much gratitude and appreciation for the Shaquille O’Neal foundation and its continued support and partnership. I am thrilled to share this video of a story I told last year at the 2023 Communities in Schools Achieve in Life Summit. I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Communities In Schools National Office for providing me with the platform to do so. 🙏 As you can tell from the video, I was filled with nervousness and excitement. It’s not always easy to open up and share our personal journeys, but I believe in the power of stories to inspire and drive change.
