It’s time to “Make it Happen, Let the OUT(side) IN” — from #diversity, #inclusion, female empowerment to thinking outside of your comfort zone for fresh solutions. Summer 2019, at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, we partnered with Google’s diversity initiative RARE GLOBAL and women’s network She Says on a dynamic event + panel discussion on “Is OUT(side) the new IN?” based on our motto, “Make it Happen, Let the OUT(side) IN.” The panel was moderated by SheSays London Co-Founder + Mr. President COO, Laura Jordan Bambach and our panelists Blair Imani (Activist + Author), Kazuha Okuda (Strategist Google Tokyo), Megan Kelly (Honor Society Films Founder) and Tea Uglow (Google Creative Director + Trans-Activist) touched on topics from: pink-washing, to money, politics, transgender rights, tokenism, innovation, leadership, including challenges females face in Japan — so many thought-provoking ideas. We also proudly partnered with photo agency Stocksy United in creating the “Make it Happen, Let the OUT(side) IN” workbook, introducing guests to Stocksy's inclusive images, along with pages for developing ideas that promote inclusivity. GROWing Together at the Cannes Lions 2024, a look back. As always, it was a pleasure attending The Female Quotient events at the iconic Hotel Martinez rooftop, with some of my favorite views of the Croisette and the various 'des plages'. Connecting with powerhouse Shelley Zalis was inspiring, and I am looking forward to speaking with her soon regarding launching the next generation of (tech) leaders at #herNEXTfrontier: Let's Build The Future Together, in Berlin, spring 2025. With 2024 being a major sports year, FQ didn't miss a beat, hosting a series of events that championed women in athletics. I especially loved a panel discussion on the WNBA's ascent to commercial prominence. WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) All-Star & ESPN Host, Chiney Ogwumike, offered a glimpse into her inspiring journey as a Nigerian-American, while league executive Colie Edison shed light on the winning strategies that have catapulted the WNBA into the national spotlight. While Delta Air Lines' Alicia Tillman solidified the airline's unwavering commitment to the league. I also loved witnessing Shelley Zalis and her incredible team bid farewell to Cannes Lions 2024. So many talented and dedicated individuals who make the Female Quotient’s global impact possible. #somuchtolearn And, last, but not least, I missed Snap Inc. showcasing their latest innovations at La Malmaison villa this year. Their 2022 Snap x Vogue AR experience was spectacular. While the villa is currently under renovation, set to reopen in December 2024, I’m looking forward to seeing what Snap has in store next year.. GROWing Together at The Cannes Lions 2024, a look back. It was fantastic to connect with Laura Jordan Bambach at the JW Marriott to discuss our shared vision for #herNEXTfrontier: Let’s Build the Future Together. As a longtime admirer of Laura’s vision as co-founder of She Says, Uncharted AI-based Agency and former Head of Grey London, I am thrilled to collaborate on this BIG ambitious project. Our goal is to launch the next generation of female founders and innovators at a global conference in Berlin, spring 2025. We’ve assembled a dream team, including Lead Strategist Karen KO THUET, Global Producer Jenny Karakaya, Advertising Creative Director Shelley Lui, Producer/Director Moe Jordan, Editorial Director Andy Sobel and Brand Creative Director Anna Ratman, and are proud to launch an initial campaign soon — stay tuned. The ‘Are We Leaving Men and Boys Behind’ event at Yahoo Beach, moderated by by Sara Denby of the Unstereotype Alliance, was a powerful eye-opener. While deeply invested in women’s empowerment, I hadn’t fully considered the unique challenges faced by men and boys. The event highlighted how media representations of masculinity can negatively impact men’s mental health. It is clear that everyone struggles, regardless of gender, and we as marketers must be mindful of how we portray people. I was particularly impressed by the presentation by Fernando Desouches, Managing Director BBD Perfect Storms New Macho, highlighting the complexities of modern manhood. More #compassion is needed, in general. Meanwhile Dr. Rebecca Swift, Getty Images, offered a fascinating historical perspective on male visual representation. By showcasing how portrayals of men have evolved over time, she illuminated the changing roles and expectations placed on them throughout society. Wow. The WORLD WOMAN FOUNDATION offered valuable insights into diversity, equity, inclusion, and empowerment. As Adrianne C. Smith wisely noted, #DEI is not dead, but a constant journey, especially in the rapidly evolving media and advertising landscape of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. GROWing Together at the Cannes Lions 2024, a look back. It was a pleasure meeting Janna Salokangas, one of the dynamic Finnish Co-Founders of Mia - Mission impact academy. Mia is dedicated to empowering 1 million women with AI skills by 2030. Thanks to Tarja Stephens for the introduction, and to Katie Calhoun for connecting me with Tarja. Obviously what I love most about Mia’s mission is how closely it is related to #herNEXTfrontier, so my team and I look forward to building the future together with Mia!  Mia and THE CHOPRA FOUNDATION hosted a session on the ethical elements of AI at Cannes Can: Diversity Collective (Inkwell Beach – shout out to Adrianne C. Smith, change agent MVP!). It was refreshing to hear CEO Poonacha Machaiah emphasize the importance of keeping humans at the center of everything we do with AI. In truth, the focus shouldn’t be AI, but the human-AI partnership. While AI dominated the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, there seems to be a growing counter-trend towards tangible, hands-on creativity. At Pinterest Beach people were eagerly waiting to customize physical items like Crocs and sneakers. I believe this desire for physical creation will become more important, especially as concerns over mental health, particularly among young women, rise due to excessive social media use. Engaging in creative, hands-on activities, often in a group setting, offers a much-needed balance in this digital world. It's not just about inputting prompts; it's about bringing ideas to life with your own hands. And, as I always tell Cannes newbies, make sure to attend at least one party as that is another fun way of connecting with folks. Thanks RTL Group Beach and Get a Room DJ duo, for an amazing night and allowing me to connect with a dynamic group of Swedes and fellow Finns, with names like Mia, Maria, Marja, Maaja, etc 🤣. GROWing Together at the Cannes Lions 2024, looking back. Finally, connecting with Laia Abellán Ponce de León, Head of Creative Shop at Meta EMEA, to present #herNEXTfrontier was so joyful. The energy and exchange of ideas was electric, like connecting with a kindred spirit. I am super happy about Laia’s support for our global movement, and am thrilled to partner with her in building the future together by bringing #herNEXTfrontier to Berlin Spring 2025! Since my hectic morning consisted of refining the presentation with my lead strategist, Karen KO THUET, the successful meeting was the dream kick-off to the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. And afterwards, the well-deserved dip in the Mediterranean waves was the perfect reward. Sports took center stage at Cannes this year. From Sport Beach by Stagwell to the pre-UEFA EURO 2024 buzz at FIFA Plage, the energy was palpable. And the Olympic flame passing through the Croisette, carried by an inspiring older runner, added to the atmosphere. Athletes, agents, and marketers from the sporting world were out in force – even Travis Kelce (Kansas City Chiefs ) made a pit (though Taylor Swift remained elusive! 🤣). On the topic of sports, the Olympic Games are, hands down, my favorite international sporting event. I love the global spirit, the fierce competition and the athletic marketing/advertising campaigns. If I’m lucky, I might even make it to Paris to soak up the Olympic spirit for a few days; if not, you’ll find me in front of a BIG flatscreen TV cheering on athletes from all around the world. — Mia Tapojärvi Dahlmer P.S. GROWing Together at the Cannes Lions 2024! The dust has settled, and it’s time to reflect on the whirlwind of ideas, creativity, GROWth and wonderful people in Cannes. As the Founder of CREATIVE/BY/COLLECTIVE, I was proud to represent our team and spark initial conversations regarding our global initiative, #herNEXTfrontier: Let’s Build the Future Together, launching soon! 🚀 .    What I love most about the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity are the reunions. After 10 years, I was elated to run into Bahriye Goren-Gulek, as I rushed to my Meta Beach rendezvous. Bahriye is a former Unilever brand manager, author of BE (Become Your True Self & Inspire Those Around You), New York University marketing professor, an American Marketing Association board member, and, most importantly, a generous well of inspiration. Thanks for your support of #herNEXTfrontier, I am looking forward to speaking with you soon, B. Unsurprisingly, AI was everywhere, to the point where I overheard “I do not want to go to another AI panel discussion.” However, as AI has deeply transformed our lives, discussions on equity, diversity, creativity, and human-AI collaboration are key for a successful future. In the age of rampant image manipulation, Dove’s #letskeepbeautyreal commitment to authentic portrayals of women, by rejecting AI-altered images, is a win against damaging unrealistic beauty standards and deserves applause. And, this might have been the first time I was excited by Microsoft Beach events. Before OpenAI, Co-Pilot and Dall-E 3 (by OpenAI), I barely used Microsoft products, let alone Bing. Hence, I was curious to see where Microsoft is headed with Co-Pilot for work & life. Thanks for the insights Matthew Loys Duncan, Future of Work. Speaking of innovation, connecting with Adobe’s Chris Duffey in IRL, who leads Strategic Development for Emerging Solutions, was awesome. It was fascinating to learn how Adobe is incorporating AI into their products. However, a critical question remains for all AI development: how is it trained? Is customer-created art part of the equation? This transparency is crucial for responsible AI use across all companies. Also, thanks for expressing interest in #herNEXTfrontier Chris, I will share more with you soon.
