About us
The Connecticut Women’s Consortium (CWC) is a nonprofit organization that provides education, training, advocacy, and policy development on gender-responsive and trauma-informed care. Our mission is to ensure that the behavioral health system responds to the needs of women and the people and organizations that affect them. Our audience includes men and women, state agencies, nonprofits, clinicians, social workers, teachers, students, and others interested in mental health, addiction and behavioral health care. The CWC includes both local and national experts in our training catalogs. We also lead on initiatives and programs that support trauma-informed, gender-responsive practices, such as our Trauma and Gender Practice Improvement Collaborative (TAG Initiative) with Connecticut’s Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.

For Week 1 of Black History Month, we're examining Black labor and economic justice—looking at historical progress, ongoing challenges, and the policies that shape workplace equity today. Unprecedented changes to long-held labor equity regulations and organizations make this conversation more important than ever. ➡ In 2023, after the Supreme Court decided to ban affirmative action in college admissions, major American employers like Meta, McDonald's, Walmart, Amazon, and more have rolled back their diversity programs. ➡ In January, President Trump signed an executive order revoking a 1965 order that prohibited federal contractors from discriminating against employees and applicants and prohibiting DEI programs in federal agencies. ➡ The Department of Defense declared identity months, like Black History Month, "dead" in an official press release on January 31. ➡ President Trump also weakened the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) by removing only Democratic commissioners from both bipartisan, independent agencies. What can we do? 🔍 Examine your own cultural biases. 📚 Learn about racial trauma and Black mental health. 🏛 Attend cultural competency and anti-racism training. 📢 Advocate for mental health initiatives at work. 💼 If you're in a leadership role, drive efforts to ensure hiring, promotion, and leadership opportunities are inclusive. 🌍 Check out organizations advocating for equitable labor practices like the National Black Worker Center, the National Association for Black Social Workers, the The Association of Black Psychologists and the A. Philip Randolph Institute. #blackhistorymonth #bhm #blacklabormatters #endworkplacediscrimination #economicjustice #workersrights #ctwomensconsortium #connecticutwomensconsortium

We’re honoring Human Trafficking Awareness Month by wearing blue and taking a stand against misinformation. It’s time to break the myths and understand the facts of trafficking, especially when it comes to vulnerable communities ⬇ ❌ MYTH: Human trafficking always involves sex trafficking and only happens in illegal businesses. ✅ FACT: Labor trafficking is also prevalent, occurring in industries like agriculture, domestic work, hospitality, and construction. ❌ MYTH: Only women and girls are victims of human trafficking. ✅ FACT: While women and girls are disproportionately affected, men and boys are also victims of labor and sex trafficking. ❌ MYTH: Human trafficking always involves physical force. ✅ FACT: Traffickers often use manipulation, blackmail, debt bondage, or threats over physical violence, especially against marginalized victims with fewer support systems. ❌ MYTH: Trafficked persons are imprisoned or physically unable to leave. ✅ FACT: Many victims can move freely throughout the world but remain trapped due to fear, psychological control, or lack of resources. ❌ MYTH: LGBTQ+ people are not targeted for trafficking. ✅ FACT: LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly youth, are at a higher risk of trafficking due to factors like family rejection, homelessness, and discrimination. ❌ MYTH: Traffickers are always strangers or involved in organized crime. ✅ FACT: Most trafficking occurs through manipulation and coercion, not stranger abduction. Victims are often lured by someone they know—family, a partner, an employer, or a friend. ❌ MYTH: Calling 911 is always the best way to help a trafficking victim. ✅ FACT: Undocumented and LGBTQ+ victims may fear police, and police education on human trafficking varies. A trafficking hotline or advocacy group is often a safer option. Check out the following resources to report a tip, seek help, or learn about advocating for human trafficking survivors: 📞 The Network CT's human trafficking hotline: 860-763-4542 National Human Trafficking Hotline: 888-373-7888 or text BEFREE to 233733 🌐 National Human Trafficking Hotline: help@humantraffickinghotline.org or live chat at https://hubs.li/Q034T9m50 Polaris (formerly Polaris Project): https://hubs.li/Q034T3R60 Love146: https://hubs.li/Q034T4Jw0 Advocate Toolkit: https://hubs.li/Q034T9n20 #humantraffickingawareness #humantrafficking #endhumantrafficking #wewearblue #traffickingawareness #traffickingprevention #ctwomensconsortium #connecticutwomensconsortium
