Shattering Barriers: A Personal Reflection on Empowering Women in Finance Yesterday, I had the honor of attending a transformative event organized by the SheWealth Collective, a community I co-initiated with my incredible colleagues Marion Fogli & Olga Miler, and proudly enabled by Alpian Bank & SmartPurse - Fun, Financial Education for you and your workforce. The evening featured a screening of "Show Her the Money", a groundbreaking documentary revealing that women currently receive less than 2% of venture capital funding. This staggering statistic underscores the systemic inequalities that persist across cultures and industries. My journey through the startup ecosystem has shown me time and time again the potential that can be unlocked when we simply allow talent to thrive. During my time at Venturelab, Switzerland’s high-tech startup incubator, and my years at Google, where I was fortunate to work on many diversity initiatives, I've seen firsthand how diverse teams and inclusive thinking propel innovation forward. And yet, the barriers remain unacceptably high. Co-founding the SheWealth Collective is one of the projects closest to my heart. We created this initiative to give cosmopolitan women the financial knowledge and tools to make empowered decisions. It's a space where we can address the systemic inequalities that restrict access to capital and opportunity—issues that persist across cultures and industries. As a white, privileged male, I’m aware of my position in this conversation. Some might call it ironic for me to champion a cause that I may never fully experience. But change demands voices from all sides, and as Azin Radsan van Alebeek, a co-producer of the film and Co-Founder and General Partner Emmeline Ventures, reminded us yesterday, talent is distributed equally—across gender, race, age, and background. Opportunity, however, is not. Thank you Azin for flying in from the USA to join us for this important screening and to Maverix Private Equity - Roman Przibylla for hosting us. I am also incredibly proud of my team and what they have achieved. Celeste Rex, who is leading this initiative, and Gwendolyn Furrer, who is on the ground, have worked tirelessly alongside Olga and Marion to elevate the SheWealth Collective into Switzerland's leading female finance community. There’s much work ahead to do to create a truly inclusive landscape where talent can flourish unhindered by bias. Wednesday was a pinnacle – one that started with a simple conversation and turned into something far more significant. What started as a casual “spitball” idea over breakfast with Susan Sly at a Grayhawk Capital event turned into the inaugural Arizona FemTech and Women’s Health Summit in just six months. Yes, you read that right—six months! How did we make it happen? ✨ The resilience of women—especially those of us in our prime. We’re embracing our roles beyond caregivers, partners, and mothers. We’re focused on ourselves and empowering others to do the same. ✨ The powerful sisterhood led by Susan Sly and her incredible #GoddessPosse. These women have been uplifting each other for years, and now they’re amplifying that energy to support others. ✨ The Arizona Commerce Authority, with Sandra Watson and Melissa Lamson (my first connection with the Arizona venture ecosystem) at the helm, pushing forward Arizona’s agenda to become a top-tier destination for venture and innovation. ✨ Arizona’s pioneering spirit, where hard work, collaboration, and kindness fuel growth, profits—and even water—in the desert 🌵 , modeled by our state's leadership that is women majority including our formidable Mayor Kate Gallego who kicked us off with her overlapping vision for making Phoenix an innovation hub ✨ Our community of partners, people who are investing their time, experience, and resources to help build this ecosystem from the ground up. ✨ The infectious energy from those within and beyond our borders, drawn in by the heat of our passion and the potential we see for the future.
