Secretary Granholm is in Foz do Iguacu, Brazil where she led the U.S. delegation at the U.S.-Brazil Energy Forum Ministerial. The U.S.-Brazil Energy Forum (USBEF) continues to drive progress in clean energy cooperation. She met with Brazil's Minister of Mines and Energy Alexandre Silveira renewed our nations’ partnership and celebrated recent achievements under the bilateral cooperation of the USBEF and recognized strong progress on clean hydrogen, and carbon and methane management cooperation. We announced multiple deliverables, including the launch of a joint project to decarbonize isolated energy systems in remote areas in the Amazon, a new cooperation on clean energy hubs, strengthening cooperation on carbon and methane management, continuing collaboration on clean hydrogen to assess the technical and economic feasibility of bioenergy-to-hydrogen routes, and an MOU to have Brazil host the next Latin America and Caribbean Solar Decathlon—a U.S. Department of Energy branded flagship collegial competition inspiring students around the world to enter the clean energy workforce. She also met with executives from the clean energy sector to discuss how to leverage the bilateral engagement for substantive public-private dialogue in core strategic areas like hydrogen, clean fuels and products, grid modernization, and carbon capture utilization and sequestration, among others. We highlighted the importance of the private sector in advancing the energy transition in both countries and called for additional efforts to expand cooperation under the Clean Energy Industry Dialogue, the bilateral public-private partnership co-led by the two governments. The Biden-Harris Administration is continuing to provide coordinated federal support for ongoing Hurricane Helene response and recovery. We've deployed responders to support the federal-state response efforts and we’re working with industry and government partners to restore power.
The Southeast was hit hard by Hurricane Helene. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is working closely with government and industry partners as over 50,000 utility personnel restore power to the region. We remain committed to supporting the affected communities as they recover from Helene.

U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) reposted this
Happy 100th birthday, President Jimmy Carter. As the father of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), he founded our agency as the top institution for world-leading science, transformative technologies, and next-generation energy sources. The United States is stronger and safer thanks to President Carter.
It’s time to celebrate! Jimmy Carter, America’s humanitarian-in-chief, is 100 years old today! The longest-living former U.S. president co-founded The Carter Center in 1982, received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1999, and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. The former Navy man, peanut farmer, governor, and husband to the late Rosalynn Carter will mark his big day at home in Plains, Georgia. bit.ly/3zFj0Pf
