At Ennead Architects, our commitment to innovation and sustainability drives us to continually explore new horizons in design technology. Lead Computational Design Specialist, Colin Matthews, recently attended both the Rhino Developer Meeting in Copenhagen, organized by McNeel Europe, and the Rhino User Meeting in Berlin, organized by Priedemann Facade Experts / Facade-Lab. In Copenhagen, the focus was on AI and automation for complex 3D modeling; In Berlin, new advancements in computational design within the AEC industry, including innovative methods for measuring and tracking embodied carbon. Our team looks forward to integrating these insights into our workflow to create designs that are more impactful and sustainable than ever. We are proud to be part of a collaborative community of computational designers, where the pursuit of innovation enhances tools like Rhino and propels our industry forward. We're excited to implement these new technologies to create sustainable, forward-thinking designs for our clients and communities. #Ennead #EnneadArchitects #Rhino3D #Sustainability #Innovation #ComputationalDesign #EmbodiedCarbon #Architecture

Starting the week in the best way, by welcoming Illinois Institute of Technology students to Ennead Architects! The students (hailing from all over -- the US, India, Canada, Spain, Ecuador) are in a studio taught by Jennifer Park and Mouna Chahin and are designing a cultural center along Millennium Park. I can think of no better firm to learn about iconic placemaking from ;) Thanks to Nicholas Jeffway for hosting the group with me, and to our own Aislinn Weidele for the photos!

For years, communities in the Bronx have worked to reimagine and reclaim a large portion of underutilized space beneath the Bruckner Expressway. Last week, a Local Center team of Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice, Inc. Ennead Architects, Public Works Partners Buro Happold and Cozen O'Connor opened the first phase of the Soundview Economic Hub, to turn the formerly neglected space into a creative community plaza. The Team unveiled an art exhibit featuring work from local artists, celebrated local businesses and launched the new public space. Swing by the Hub every Sunday for the next year for art, music, local vendors and more! How is the role of the academic library evolving in the information age? In his recent work with Harvard University Library, Ennead Principal Alex O'Briant has been thinking about this important topic. His latest article, "The Signal in the Noise: Pivoting to a New Mission for the Academic Library" has just been published by American School & University. In it, Alex proposes changes colleges and universities can make to their libraries that will enable them to shift from being "guardians of knowledge to synthesizers of it." The U.S. Department of State recently celebrated the dedication of the New U.S. Consulate in Nogales. Located five kilometers from the Arizona border, the new U.S. Consulate in Nogales, Mexico is situated between commercial and residential districts on a steep hilltop site with expansive mountain views. With limited street frontage, the consulate is primarily seen from a distance and is an important symbol of U.S. interest in the region. Providing shelter from the harsh Sonoran Desert sun, an oversized ramada responds to the regional climate and culture, while also providing the Diplomatic community with a comfortable, welcoming, and protected environment that expresses the spirit and values of the United States. The U.S. Department of State shared a press release about the dedication: "The new consulate in Nogales, designed by Ennead Architects with Page as the Architect of Record and constructed by BL Harbert International, involved a total investment of $203 million, with $70 million directly invested into the local economy. The facility has a(n)... emphasis on sustainability through shading elements, native landscaping, and renewable resources. Expanded consular services reinforce the vital economic and people-to-people ties between Arizona and Sonora, while the design and construction integrate local materials and art to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the region on both sides of the border."
