    In May 2024, telehealth utilization decreased nationally and in every region but the West, according to FAIR Health’s Monthly Telehealth Regional Tracker. Nationally, telehealth claim lines fell from 4.86 percent of medical claim lines in April to 4.82 percent in May, a decrease of 0.8 percent. In the West, by contrast, telehealth claim lines rose from 6.31 percent to 6.52 percent, an increase of 3.3 percent. In the Northeast, the telehealth share of claim lines fell 0.7 percent; in the Midwest, it fell 0.4 percent; and in the South, it fell 0.1 percent.     The percentage of commercially insured patients with sexually transmitted disease (STD) diagnoses rose by 4.8 percent from 2020 to 2023, according to a new study from FAIR Health. The study results, which were released in the form of an infographic, are based on analysis of data from FAIR Health’s repository of over 47 billion commercial healthcare claim records—the largest such repository in the country. Among the other FAIR Health findings, all for the period 2020-2023: - The fastest-growing STD diagnoses by percent change in the percentage of patients with those diagnoses were syphilis (29.4 percent), gonorrhea (16.8 percent), and HIV and AIDS (14.1 percent). - Patients aged 65 and older had the largest increase (32.2 percent) in human papillomavirus (HPV) diagnoses. The next largest increase (21.9 percent) occurred among patients aged 55 to 64. - The percentage of male patients with gonorrhea grew by 59.2 percent while the percentage of female patients with the same diagnosis declined by 19.3 percent. - The percentage of male patients with syphilis grew by 22.9 percent while the percentage of female patients with the same diagnosis grew by 46.5 percent. Nationally, telehealth claim lines rose from 4.73 percent of medical claim lines in March to 4.86 percent in April, an increase of 2.7 percent. In the South, the increase was 7.2 percent, from 3.48 percent of medical claim lines in March to 3.73 percent in April.     The national median allowed amount for C-section rose 8.9 percent, from $15,555.61 in September 2022 to $16,943.79 in September 2023, according to the FAIR Health Cost of Giving Birth Tracker. The national median allowed amount for vaginal delivery rose 7.5 percent, from $12,968.44 in September 2022 to $13,945.72 in September 2023. Available on FAIR Health’s website fairhealth.org, the Cost of Giving Birth Tracker is a free, interactive tool tracking the cost of giving birth state by state. It consists of heat maps that show state-specific and national median charge and allowed (in-network) amounts for vaginal deliveries and C-sections. The tool draws on the national, independent nonprofit FAIR Health’s database of over 46 billion commercial healthcare claim records—the largest such repository in the country. Launched in June 2023 with data from September 2022, the Cost of Giving Birth Tracker has just been updated with data from the September 2023 release of the vaginal delivery and C-section FH® Total Treatment Cost benchmarks.
