Financial support for families facing cancer
About us
Treatment requires more than medicine — families need a roof over their heads and food on their tables to survive. If a family can’t meet these basic needs, cancer treatment takes a back seat. Family Reach is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works with patients, providers, and community organizations to challenge the systems that force families to choose between their health and their home. Together, we’re making financial treatment a standard of cancer care.

Cheers to 28 years of Family Reach! 💜 Our impact begins with our founders — the Colangelo and Morello families — who started an organization to fight the #financialtoxicity they witnessed when they both lost a child to cancer. 💚 Today, they reflect on nearly three decades of providing life-saving financial support to people facing cancer.

After facing cancer for over 10 years, Camille is intimately familiar with the financial worries that come with a diagnosis. 💜 We must recognize the reality of #financialtoxicity and advocate for a world where no patient has to carry the weight of how "expensive it is to simply exist."

Summer should be a time for fun and relaxation, but for families facing cancer, it's often a time of increased hardship — Family Reach sees demand for food resources jump 20% when kids are out of school. Together, we can meet this demand and build a world where patients don't have to choose between buying groceries or gas to treatment.

65% of Americans are living paycheck-to-paycheck with no room for savings, according to a recent CNBC survey. So how can we expect the majority of Americans to afford a health crisis like cancer? 💜 We're not afraid to advocate for these people and their families because no one should have to make impossible decisions between their health and everyday necessities.

At Family Reach, "meeting patients where they are" is more than just a phrase. One of the ways we're actively reaching people in need is through our on-site support program. Alima Lester, our On-Site Resource Navigator, works at treatment centers in Philadelphia, where there are some of the highest rates of cancer diagnoses and poverty in the country. ➡️ Swipe for an example of this work in action.

"Cancer isn't just emotionally and physically taxing: It can take a steep financial toll on patients, caregivers, and families," reports TIME. ➡️ Wiping out bank accounts, struggling to afford groceries, and losing safe housing shouldn't be side effects of cancer, but they are. Financial interventions level the playing field so that every patient can meet their basic needs and maintain access to life-saving treatment. #financialtoxicity #cancersupport
