Unwinding pain is complicated. At least one in five US adults and kids lives with chronic pain, yet it remains a scientific mystery — and 96% of med schools don’t mandate pain management training. Following pharma’s influence, America finds itself stuck in an expensive pain cycle. A short-sighted, drug-heavy system spawned a $1.5T opioid epidemic, with the US consuming 80% of the world’s opioid supply and 10M prescription painkillers in 2019. Course-correcting, doctors reverted to ignoring patients’ complaints — but 84% of patients reported worse quality of life and 42% considered suicide after prescriptions crackdowns. A biopsychosocial puzzle, pain requires a multifaceted fix. The reactive healthcare system misleads people into thinking pills and surgeries are the only solution, but mission-driven companies are innovating lower-risk options: - Hinge Health leverages biofeedback. - Vori Health builds integrated, specialized care teams. - Kaia Health and Origin repair the overlooked pelvic floor. - RealizedCare Care incorporates neuroscience-based VR rehab. - HigherDOSE, Sidekick, Aletha, Flexpower Health Inc, and WTHN offer natural relief. A complex problem, permanent relief from chronic pain is possible. But root cause approaches and holistic cures aren’t as profitable or fast-acting as opioids. 💌 Presented by Truemed

Peloton’s platform is evolving. ICYMI: The company just inked a content partnership with Fitbit. Fitbit (now part of Google) Premium users gain access to Peloton Interactive classes, while Peloton members receive discounts on Google devices. A multi-year deal, this partnership bolsters Peloton’s content licensing efforts—alongside TikTok, lululemon, and NBA x WNBA—as the brand looks to move beyond connected equipment. Peloton also announced upcoming beta tests, “reimagining” its fitness and wellness offering with… 🧠 Personalized plans: using machine learning to generate weekly class recommendations. 💪 Peloton Strength+ app: a standalone app featuring audio-guided coaching and custom workout generator. 🎮 Gaming-inspired workouts: testing a new immersive, gaming-inspired cycling experience. While the Fitbit partnership launches in September, there are no firm dates for the beta tests. It’s worth noting that both announcements come as Peloton prepares to report earnings next week. Its stock ticked up on the news, but the company is still searching for a sustainable path forward. Playing to its strengths, content deals and new features hint at an open platform — more Fitness-as-a-Service than hardware-centric business model. In the future, Peloton OS could look like an integrated wellness hub — housing fitness content, health data, 1:1 coaching, nutrition, and more across brands and providers. ClassPass owner Mindbody is preparing to go public. The fitness and wellness software provider retained Goldman Sachs as it prepares to IPO in “12-18 months.” • Mindbody acquired ClassPass in 2021, valuing the combined company at $3B.  • Mindbody previously went public in 2015, before being taken private by Vista Equity Partners for $1.9B in 2019. Now, CEO Fritz Lanman says the company expects $500M in 2024 revenue. A competitive space, software platforms serving the fitness and wellness industry are scaling up. Thoma Bravo is reportedly exploring a $3B sale of ABC Fitness — which owns coaching app ABC Trainerize and studio management platform ABC Glofox. Backed by Advent International, Xplor rolled up booking software of Xplor Mariana Tek, admin solutions zingfit by Xplor and Triib, and PT app TrueCoach by Xplor . Clubessential Holdings is forecasting $225M in revenue this year and could fetch $3B in a potential sale. Meanwhile, Hapana recently added $17M and Gymdesk raised $32.5M as upstarts like Arketa and Momence scale up.
