About us
If the largest generation of young people in history is prepared for the transition to work, the potential for global progress is unlimited! Generation Unlimited is a global multi-sector partnership convened by the UN Secretary-General at the 73rd United Nations General Assembly in September 2018. Hosted by UNICEF, Generation Unlimited (GenU) works to ensure that the world’s 1.8 billion youth are connected to the internet, have access to world-class digital learning and skilling solutions and are economically empowered with employment and entrepreneurial opportunities. Generation Unlimited creates public-private partnerships – globally and in countries – to co-create and support investment opportunities, programmes and innovations at a large scale, and to help young people become productive in life. Our focus is on three strategic priorities: 1. Scale up online/remote learning, skilling, and livelihood platforms 2. Boost entrepreneurial skills and opportunities 3. Engage youth as changemakers

In the article "How to Create a Strategy to Reduce Youth Unemployment", authored by Alexandra van der Ploeg and Eugene H. from SAP, they focus on addressing youth unemployment through a systems-based approach that tackles education, employability, and economic challenges. The discussion highlights key strategies to close the skills gap and create pathways to decent work. SAP, a key partner of Generation Unlimited, is helping equip young people with essential skills through education and job training initiatives. #SkillsRightNow

Erinoso from Nigeria 🇳🇬 chose to build her #SkillsRightNow in fixing computers, a path less accessible for girls in the community. Today, the 20-year-old runs a computer repair business and is funding her own higher education. She credits her apprenticeship trainer and mentor Mrs. Omowunmi at the Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos as the inspiration in this journey. Erinoso's advice to other girls and young women? “Don’t let negative comments discourage you from pursuing your dreams. If you can think it, you can win it.” Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos is supported by the Girls’ Education and Skills Partnership (GESP) from UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and UNICEF’s Generation Unlimited with UNICEF Nigeria to equip girls and young women in Nigeria like Erinoso with high-quality, market-relevant ICT skills to thrive professionally in a rapidly evolving sector. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gWZtw-qe 📸: Yaba Tech #GirlGoals #InternationalDayoftheGirldChild #IDG2024

Connecting with Henrietta Holsman Fore and Kevin Frey during the 79th UNGA took me back to the five-year journey with UNICEF and launching and scaling Generation Unlimited. It was great to witness its remarkable progress. Generation Unlimited recently welcomed Canada and Qatar as Lead Government Partners, with a commitment of $80 million (USD). This support aims to equip young people for a rapidly changing world, connecting them to opportunities in employment, entrepreneurship, and social impact. A significant milestone in their journey! It was also good to see how the #GreenRising initiative, which started with a brainstorming session, has taken a life of its own. It has surpassed its 3-year ambition and mobilised over 11 million young people to take grassroots climate action in just one year. With #GreenRising operational in more than 30 countries, there are even more opportunities to work with young people, putting their needs at the centre and delivering tangible environmental impact in different parts of the world. This is now a movement, and young people are taking charge. Kudos to Team Generation Unlimited! As Peter Drucker said: “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” #youngleaders #greenrising #GenU #leadership #entrepreneurship

Acknowledging Canadian Minister of International Cooperation Ahmed Hussen and Education Above All Foundation CEO Fahad Al Sulaiti for their steadfast support, she emphasized: “Solidarity and multilateral cooperation are more crucial than ever, and Qatar is fully committed to advancing these efforts through humanitarian and development assistance." Generation Unlimited welcomes Qatar and Canada as Co-Lead Government Partners, with their commitment strengthening the work to empower youth with #SkillsRightNow and opportunities. https://lnkd.in/eh3ZS47z

“The two things young people today need most to be prepared for the future are access to digital skills because you can’t function in the 21st century without digital tools, and having a plan and commitment to take part in climate action initiatives. These priorities reflect what GenU and UNICEF are all about.” – Canadian Minister of International Cooperation Ahmed Hussen shares his insights at the Special Session of the Generation Unlimited Global Leadership Council. As GenU’s Co-Lead Government Partners, Canada and Qatar have made a four-year $80million commitment to support programmes that help empower millions of young people to gain #SkillsRightNow and transition to livelihoods in the digital and green economies. https://lnkd.in/eh3ZS47z Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada
