Bold. Grand. Inspired.
About us
Grand St. Settlement connects New Yorkers with opportunities that inspire, services that keep families strong and programs that bring communities closer. We've been inviting New Yorkers to join us in building the communities we need for a century; when we opened our doors in 1916 we served the Lower East Side, but today we connect more than 10,000 New Yorkers on both sides of the Williamsburg Bridge, including Williamsburg, Bushwick, East New York, Brownsville, and Bed-Stuy. Our Community Centers, partner schools and Child & Family Centers are vibrant, safe, and inclusive, creating a home away from home that reflects the cultures and wisdom of the communities' diverse experiences.

Breaking News: The federal government has awarded Grand Street Settlement two grants to provide Head Start, Inc. programming for 583 more children and their families. Grand Street will open our third Head Start center in Sunset Park, Brooklyn and six new centers in one of the most underserved, yet vibrant boroughs in New York City. That's right, we're coming to the Bronx! We're grateful to our Representatives Ritchie Torres and Daniel Goldman for supporting this investment in their districts. We're also incredibly thankful for partners like Rigaud Noel and New Settlement, Denise Adusei and Bronx Children's Museum, Dr. Meisha Porter and The Bronx Community Foundation, Tara N. Gardner and DAY CARE COUNCIL OF NEW YORK INC, Susan Stamler and United Neighborhood Houses, and so many more collaborators. Hear more details about this exciting step from CEO Robert Cordero. A few years ago, we worked with the team at Boundless Creative to get an inside look at our programs by visiting Bushwick Child and Family Center. Site Director Valerie Agostini, Family Worker Nilsa Rivera, and Teacher and former parent Marisol Torres share why our programs are designed to support children, parents, and their whole family as they begin their educational journey. Learn more or enroll your child at www.grandsettlement.org.

The Robin Hood Foundation visited us with their summer interns to learn more about the work Grand Street does supporting children and families. We were delighted to show them around our Best Buy Teen Tech Center and give a tour of our newly renovated community center at 80 Pitt St. It's refreshing to have the opportunity to share ideas with thoughtful future leaders. Thank you to Pam Davis and Suzi Epstein for your continued support and partnership. Special shout out to Taste of the Lower East Side restaurant Brooklyn Dumpling Shop for catering our meeting with some of the best dumplings and noodles in town!

Today is one of the best days of the year - the first day of summer camp! Over the next few weeks, our participants throughout Brooklyn and the Lower East Side will enjoy engaging and safe programs, explore their interests, and take exciting field trips to gain new experiences. Check out how different our programs look today than they did 108 years ago when Grand Street's founder Rose Gruening operated Camp Moodna to support working class and immigrant families.

Thank you to The School of The New York Times for joining CEO Robert Cordero on the Lower East Side to learn more about the work we do at Grand Street!
So happy to host Zaina Arafat and her students from The School of The New York Times at Grand Street Settlement. We talked about the history of settlement houses and the Lower East Side, which is very much the history of migration, culture, advocacy and progress in New York City. Our future is bright with these worldly journalism students and it’s a true highlight to do this annually! The New York Times

This time of year is always a joy as our Pre-K students step up to Kindergarten. We are so proud of their hard work, but equally as proud of the incredible teams at our Child and Family Centers throughout Brooklyn and the Lower East Side. Thank you to the teachers, family advocates, site directors, and all the staff who support the children and families in our programs and set them up for a lifetime of success!
