Healthy women and girls are at the heart of thriving communities. Their access to education, workforce participation, and investment in the next generation are vital for progress. But preventable diseases, like #cervicalcancer, still pose a significant threat to their future. Each year, over 350,000 women, mostly in low- and middle-income countries, lose their lives to this deadly disease. In 2022 alone, Africa saw over 125,000 cases and 80,000 deaths due to cervical cancer. To protect the next generation, we must prioritize the health of women and girls. ✨ Congratulations to the Government of Nepal on the successful roll-out of the HPV vaccination campaign, protecting nearly 1.5 million girls from #cervicalcancer! Dr. Abhiyan Gautam, Chief of the Child Health and Immunization Service Section, shared: “We are working day and night to ensure that none of our targeted girls are missed – who are in fact the future of our country.” An estimated 2,244 new cases of cervical cancer are diagnosed annually in Nepal, with 1,493 women losing their lives to the disease. Tragically, 80% of patients are diagnosed when the cancer is already at a late stage, contributing to these high mortality rates. This #HPVvaccination campaign is a crucial step in preventing those numbers from rising, giving young girls the chance for a healthier, brighter future. In an incredible partnership, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF), and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance have come together for a powerful campaign aimed at raising awareness about #cervicalcancer prevention through the global love of soccer! ⚽ ️ This initiative is saving lives by protecting girls’ health. Emily Kobayashi, the head of the HPV vaccine program at Gavi, says “Every time we lose a woman to cervical cancer, that is a mother, a community member, a leader, a teacher, and that is a person in our society we are losing and whose family is losing her. As we wrap up #CervicalCancerAwarenessMonth, we reflect on the impactful work of the #HAPPIConsortium and the significant strides in improving the health of future generations against cervical cancer.    From translating evidence into policy to ensuring access and providing technical support to 19 countries, we are helping create a world with fair access to #HPV vaccination.    Looking ahead, we have exciting priorities for the next year, where we will prioritize research & learning:  - Evaluate HPV vaccination efforts in fragile contexts across 14 countries  - Identify key components to ensure continuous HPV vaccine supply in up to 7 countries  - Explore ways to build a supportive environment for HPV vaccination  - Assess the effects of switching to a single-dose HPV vaccine on program operations and long-term sustainability    We are committed to working alongside our partners to ensure the long-term success of HPV vaccination programs worldwide 🌍.
