Kenna Lawson may only be six years old, but she’s become a regular at INTEGRIS Health Children’s. At just four months old, Kenna was diagnosed with Angelman syndrome, a rare neurological condition. She is missing a gene on her 15th chromosome, which causes developmental delays and seizures. Kenna has also endured numerous other medical conditions already in her young life, receiving treatment and care at several INTEGRIS Health locations throughout the Oklahoma City area. In 2021, Kenna developed a rare but life-threatening disease that almost took her life. After spending time at INTEGRIS Health, the staff was able to help Kenna's health improve. She and her family will be honored Friday, July 26 as the INTEGRIS Health “Home Run For Life” series continues during the 2024 OKC Baseball Club season at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. It was such a heartwarming reunion on July 12 at the OKC Baseball Club game as we celebrated Julio Dominguez's success story with his family and caregivers from the incredible INTEGRIS Health Nazih Zuhdi Transplant Institute ECMO team! He was honored as part of the INTEGRIS Health "Home Run For Life" series at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. On July 12, Julio Dominguez will be running the bases at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark as a survivor after receiving life-saving care from INTEGRIS Health. After the now-retired U.S. Army officer collapsed at his home in February 2021, he was rushed to INTEGRIS Health Edmond Hospital, where he tested positive for both COVID-19 and pneumonia. At the hospital, Julio’s body wouldn’t respond to medicine or a ventilator, and his heart and lungs couldn’t function on their own. He was transferred to the Nazih Zuhdi Transplant Institute at INTEGRIS Health Baptist Medical Center where he underwent extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). The treatment essentially acts as a working set of heart and lungs for patients in critical condition and is often considered a “last hope." He was hospitalized for almost 90 days and is beyond grateful for the care and support the staff and physicians provided him. “If it wasn’t for INTEGRIS Health, I wouldn’t be here,” he said. “The things they did were remarkable.
