Here are a few snaps from the Nuclear Energy Space & Defense Tech Investor Summit, hosted by Balerion Space Ventures, where Interlune CEO Rob Meyerson spoke last week. It was an impressive event, bringing together founders and investors to discuss the rapid advancement in energy and space. It was also an opportunity to meet with old friends and make new ones. 🌕 And despite what it looks like, wearing a blue suit was not required for admission. 😉 #lunareconomy #nuclearenergy #investorsummit

I'm super excited to see my friends at FUSE VC chipping in to help build the space economy. The PNW isn't known for space investing so this is evidence that the talent is here and that the FUSE team is on the cutting edge. If you have an idea for a company, or you've always wanted to start one, reach out to Nolan Van Nortwick. Thanks FUSE for making this bet. CDL-Seattle Interlune
Incredibly proud to announce the 'FUSE Space Program' alonsgide Brendan Wales, where we'll be writing $1M Pre-Seed checks (total $10M or more) to help day-zero founders build their pioneering vision in space into a reality. We've already had the privelege of partnering with Lumen Orbit (YC S24) and Quindar, and are hungry for more. 🛰️ The financial/logistical barrier to orbit has never been lower. Falling launch costs have driven enormous growth in the number of active satellites in orbit, and the underlying infrastructure to support this new space economy is being built as we speak. As a part of this initiative, I compiled a market map of the Pacific Northwest space companies that make this region second-to-none. Companies like Blue Origin (congrats again New Glenn!), Amazon Project Kuiper, SpaceX Starlink HQ'd in the Seattle area, where >80% of US satellites launched in 2024 were designed and built, have created an ecosystem of phenomenal engineering talent. This talent is fuel for startups innovating across novel satellite constellation applications, propulsion systems, reusable rockets, in-space logistics, human spaceflight, power, manufacturing, and of course the software stack to support the space economy. It's tricky to bucket certain orgs that have multiple capabilities, so eager to hear feedback on this! The nation is taking note, with Seattle startups like Stoke Space ($260M Series C this week!), Starfish Space, Gravitics Inc, Interlune, and Lumen Orbit (YC S24) and more attracting significant outside VC dollars to fund growth. A few areas I'm interested in, in no particular order: 🔺Satellite cybersecurity 🔺Downlink 🔺Alternative PNT 🔺Onboard edge computing 🔺Satellite servicing/logistics 🔺Ground stations in orbit 🔺Startups pushing the orbital limits into VLEO/extreme-geostationary Email me at 'nolan@fuse.vc' if you're working to help build the Space Race 2.0 - I'd love to chat. Special thanks to folks like Nate Hamet 🛰, Philip Johnston, Adi Oltean, Sandilya (Sunny) Bhagavathula, John Conafay, Ari Juster, Andrew Redd, Rob Meyerson, Nick Khormaei, Aaron Hartman, Ben Straughan, Christopher Le and many more for your help/expertise/connections as I've jumped headfirst into the fun world of satellites. :) Read more here! 🧑🚀 GeekWire: https://lnkd.in/eSBXvZip (thanks Alan Boyle for the wonderful writeup!) 🥂 2024 was a stellar year for portco Interlune From testing gravity (literally) to advancing groundbreaking research, they have made huge strides in developing the technology to unlock sustainable space resource harvesting. Here's a look at the highlights↓ 1️⃣ Came out of stealth mode with an impressive feature in The Washington Post 👏 2️⃣ Moved offices to south Seattle, a more permanent home with, (most importantly!), space for hardware development. 3️⃣ Received a NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration TechFlights grant, allowing them to test their developing tech on actual commercial spacecraft. ✨ 4️⃣ Got a boost from U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) A significant grant from the Department of Energy will support the Interlune team in developing new technology to support the domestic helium supply, while advancing to harvest this vital isotope on the moon. Huge congrats to the team for an out-of-this-world year. What's next? In 2025, not even the sky is the limit. 🚀
What a wonderful year 2024 has been! Here are a few of our favorite memories. Enjoy, and Happy New Year!

Check out this 2-minute video starring our Director of Business Development Nina Hooper explaining what helium-3 is and why it’s so valuable. Of course, we think this topic is super cool, but it sounds even cooler with her Aussie accent!

Loved having the chance to chat space, startups, and the future of the industry with TechCrunch at #TechCrunchDisrupt2024! If you ask me, we're about to see an explosion of investment in space from private investors who are generalists, just like Seven Seven Six 7️⃣7️⃣6️⃣. As a result, the next few decades will see some incredible, young, and forward-thinking companies who are *really* thinking outside the box get to space—and change the world 🚀 AstroForge, Interlune, & Stoke Space are all carving the path. They're part of a new chapter that's making space exciting and *fun* again, just like when my grandparents stayed glued to the television to watch shuttle launches >60 yrs ago. Can't wait. Like Interlune CEO Rob Meyerson likes to say: "It's no longer science fiction. It's science FACT." Watch the whole convo here 🚀 → https://lnkd.in/gqB5TNYM
