About us
Jhpiego is a nonprofit global leader in the creation and delivery of transformative health care solutions for the developing world. In partnership with national governments, health experts and local communities, we build health providers’ skills, and develop systems that save lives now and guarantee healthier futures for women and their families. Our aim is revolutionizing health care for the planet’s most disadvantaged people. Jhpiego, a Johns Hopkins University Affiliate, translates decades of program experience and in-depth technical knowledge into moments of care that can mean the difference between life and death for women and families. The moment a woman gives birth; the moment a midwife helps a newborn to breath; the moment a nurse screens for cervical cancer with a simple vinegar swab; the moment a community health worker tests a man for HIV and reports he is HIV free. By embedding the know-how and skills into everyday practice, we are able to increase access to quality health services and create a healthier future for generations to come. Access to lifesaving health care for all people, whoever they are, wherever they live, that’s our mission. Jhpiego saves lives, improves health, transforms futures.

Jhpiego reposted this
Today, I’m sharing news that fills me with both joy and a touch of sadness: after 24 transformative years, I will be retiring as Jhpiego's President & CEO on July 1, 2025. This decision was not an easy one. Jhpiego is a family and a mission that has become deeply personal to me. Together, we have expanded our footprint to over 90 countries, delivering critical care to millions. I’m profoundly grateful to each partner, donor, and colleague who has walked this path with me. I look forward to spending these next nine months fully engaged, and I am optimistic about Jhpiego’s future and the next generation of leadership.

During their summit in Wilmington, Delaware, on September 21, the Quad heads of state from Australia, the United States, Japan and India committed to the Quad Cancer Moonshot Initiative. This initiative’s collective goal is to advance the elimination of cervical cancer, caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), in collaboration with low-and middle-income Indo-Pacific partners, through expanded access to vaccines, screening and treatment. Along with other organizations contributing to the Moonshot Initiative, Jhpiego is eliminating cervical cancer together with global and Ministries of Health partners in 19 countries through HPV/cervical cancer screening and treatment and/or HPV vaccination programs. Nurse Babli Pal in Mangrauli, India knows building a relationship with the community is especially important to encourage women to come in for preventive cancer screening. She works to gain trust from hesitant women in her village by increasing health awareness and encouraging women to come to follow-up appointments. Through a Jhpiego-supported training, and in partnership with the government of Uttar Pradesh, Pal learned how to create awareness about women’s cancers, conduct breast examinations and screen women for oral and cervical cancer. This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, learn more about Nurse Pal’s efforts to increase awareness and access to crucial women’s cancer screenings. https://lnkd.in/d3x9cyZz #BreastCancerAwareness

🌱 On Climate Action Day, Jhpiego is reflecting on how climate change affects health – around the world. 🌍 In a recent interview, Jhpiego President and CEO, Leslie Mancuso discussed these issues, highlighting how rising temperatures directly contributes towards a 22.4% increase in infant mortality rates and 99% of climate change-related deaths occur in developing countries with children making up over 80% of those deaths. With these devastating statistics in mind, Jhpiego is committed towards making a difference. In collaboration with Takeda, SFH Rwanda, and Mercy Corps, 1.5 million women each year will have lifesaving care using sustainable approaches! Jhpiego’s call to actions are focused on: 🌎 Developing climate-resilient care 🏥 Integrating climate-resilient care into primary health care 💻 Investing in digital health solutions 📝 Planning for sustainability and scale With bold vision and courageous action, together we can combat climate-related health challenges! #ClimateActionDay #ClimateChangesHealth

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it is crucial to increase awareness about how breast cancer impacts women around the world. In low- and middle-income countries, breast cancer is often diagnosed late, which significantly increases mortality rates. In response to this, Jhpiego is introducing and expanding programs that promote early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer in Botswana, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and India. These programs aim to increase access to clinical breast examinations, promote breast health awareness, build strong referral pathways to diagnostics and treatment, and work with governments to improve capacity for diagnosis and treatment. For two years, Joana sought care for a growth in her left breast. She visited local doctors several times, but it did not help. As her condition worsened, it became increasingly difficult for Joana to find work – making her world smaller. That is until she made a visit to a Jhpiego-supported health fair during breast cancer awareness month where Joana found relief and understanding about her breast health. Suspecting cancer, the nurses referred Joana to José Macamo Hospital, where she received a diagnosis, treatment and hope for the future.
