#TeachingTuesday with Haynes Academy for Advanced Studies Students in Ms. Fortmayer’s sixth grade science classes were making models of plant and animal cells using materials from a recent DonorsChoose project. Learning about plant and animal cells through creating models is essential for students' understanding of cellular biology. Building these models provides a hands-on way to visualize and explore the structures of cells, like nuclei, mitochondria, and chloroplasts. This approach engages students actively, prompting critical thinking as they consider organelle shapes, sizes, and functions. Collaborative model-making activities also foster teamwork and communication skills. JP Schools is hosting a 2nd Grace King Memorabilia online auction starting Monday, July 22 - Monday, July 29. After the 2023-2024 school consolidation announcement, Grace King alumni inquired about the schools’ memorabilia. The district originally shared, “All memorabilia items from closing schools will be placed for auction through the District’s standard auction process on publicsurplus.com. Gage Dufour, a graduate from Riverdale High School's Class of 2024, approached graduation day with a mix of nerves and excitement. Throughout his high school journey, he excelled in the IB English program while also distinguishing himself as a star athlete. Initially a football player for three seasons at Riverdale, Gage later chose to dedicate himself fully to baseball. One of his most cherished high school memories is from a pivotal game against De Lasalle on their senior game night, where he delivered a standout performance that clinched victory for his team. Despite being born with Poland syndrome—a birth defect with symptoms also affecting finger growth—Gage never allowed it to hinder him. Instead, he mastered the use of both hands and never used it as an excuse. Looking forward, Gage plans to further his education at John Melvin University, where he aims to refine his baseball skills with aspirations of reaching the major leagues. He credits his parents for their unwavering support throughout his educational journey. “I wouldn’t be where I am today if I didn’t put in one hundred percent effort.
