ICYMI: Jupiter Power spoke with the Houston Chronicle this week about the company’s latest contribution to the ERCOT grid. The Callisto I project is Houston's first transmission-connected battery energy storage system, coming online ahead of triple-digit heat this week. “‘The battery is perfect for the city of Houston. It takes very little land use,’ said Caitlin Smith, Jupiter Power vice president of policy and corporate communications. ‘It responds instantaneously, and so it can meet the demand that Houston has when the power is not there.’ Read the full article here >> https://lnkd.in/dZE7jwSM #BatteryStorage #Energy #TexasEnergy #ERCOT

Jupiter Power is excited to announce today the achievement of commercial operations of 400MWh of dispatchable power to the ERCOT grid with a battery energy storage facility in Houston, Texas. Callisto I is the first transmission-connected battery energy storage project in the city of Houston, and will significantly increase Houston’s supply of reliable, zero emissions power. This amount of dispatchable power in the Houston city load center represents the success of market-based improvements by lawmakers to add competitive, dispatchable power to the ERCOT grid. With ERCOT expecting peak demand and tight conditions today, we are proud to be able to provide this amount of instantaneous, firm power. The Callisto I Energy Center is a 200MW/400MWh battery energy storage system located in central Houston, five miles from the Medical Center and ten miles from the Houston Ship Channel at the site of a former HL&P H.O. Clarke fossil fuel power plant. The site can accommodate an additional 400MW/800MWh of battery energy storage generation. Callisto I is Jupiter Power’s ninth project in ERCOT, bringing its total ERCOT fleet to 1,375MWh. In December of 2023, Jupiter Power announced the closing of a$65.2 million financing with First Citizens Bank to finance the construction of Callisto I. We were excited to speak with the Boston Globe about our upcoming 700 MW #BatteryEnergyStorage project on 20 acres of a former petroleum tank farm in Everett, MA. Our CEO, Andy Bowman, spoke with reporter Jon Chesto this week: “It’s a great location. There’s the ability to deliver a lot of power there from the power plant that used to be there. We can interconnect efficiently [to the grid], without a lot of costs to ratepayers,” Bowman said. Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gmBccPZa

Jupiter Power CEO, Andy Bowman, recently had the opportunity to sit down with Doug Lewin from the The Energy Capital Podcast for a great conversation covering a range of topics, from the growth of solar and energy storage in Texas to rising demand from new technologies. It is an insightful discussion overall on how the Texas grid is transforming and the future of energy. The episode is out now and you can listen below!
🎙️Just dropped! Tune in to the latest episode of the Energy Capital Podcast where I had the pleasure of talking with Jupiter Power's Andy Bowman! We're at the start of a new age of energy, and Andy and I talked about what that will mean for Texas. We covered the economics of solar, and concerns on whether or not Texas solar will cannibalize itself and mitigate future growth in the industry. We also talked about rising demand in the form of data centers, carbon capture machines, electric vehicles, and lots of other large loads coming onto the system, which is currently having a transformative effect on the grid. And finally, we discussed whether or not capitalism is up to the task of dealing with climate change, an important conversation that is subject to endless debate. 🔒 This episode is exclusively available to our paid subscribers, with a free preview is available to all. Don't miss out! Subscribe now to access the entirety of this insightful conversation.
