Last week, we proudly celebrated the dedication and grand opening of this vibrant new community center in San Francisco. "The Hub" features a childcare center run by Wu Yee Children’s Services, a Boys & Girls Clubhouse, a state-of-the-art recording studio, a welcoming shared living room and community kitchen, versatile multi-purpose rooms for events and classes, plus study and meeting spaces designed to serve the residents of Sunnydale, Visitacion Valley, and nearby neighborhoods. Yesterday, we celebrated the Building Dedication and Ribbon Cutting for The Hub at Sunnydale, a new community center in San Francisco – congratulations to the project team! Watch a video of the event here: https://lnkd.in/g4UevXJT "Mayor London N. Breed joined State Senator Scott Wiener, City officials, and community leaders to celebrate the grand opening of The Hub, a new community center in Sunnydale HOPE SF. The center includes a childcare center operated by Wu Yee Children’s Services, a Boys & Girls Clubhouse, a new recording studio, shared living room and community kitchen, multi-purpose rooms for events and classes, and study and meeting spaces serving residents of Sunnydale, Visitacion Valley, and surrounding communities," writes SF.gov. The recipient of a California Mass Timber Building Competition grant, The Hub features cross laminated timber (CLT) decking floors and roof structure, and glue-laminated columns and beams throughout. Serving as a new gateway into McLaren Park and combined with the adjacent Herz Recreation Center (also designed by LMSA), the project creates a new campus that supports connections to nature and provides a safe, lively, and nurturing environment. LMSA on site checking out the progress of the new #masstimber Mosswood Park Community Center & Park currently underway in Oakland last week! The project will create a vibrant destination for civic, cultural, social, educational, and recreational activities. The Park and Center will be inclusive of a diverse community of users, accessible, flexible in use, and thoughtfully designed. The new building will integrate thoughtfully within the park context; enhancing visibility, security, and connectivity with adjacent uses, while preserving and protecting the verdant, pastoral setting and popular recreation amenities that the park provides. The project creates a “state-of-the art” facility that will foster community, wellness, recreation, and learning. Since joining LMSA nearly 20 years ago, Principal Vanna Whitney, AIA has contributed an immense passion for housing under-resourced populations, engaging with diverse user groups, and winning neighbors over through design. This October, Vanna will be stepping down from her role at LMSA to explore new career horizons. We wish Vanna continued success in this next chapter and are extremely grateful for her impactful contributions to LMSA. Her spirit and dedication have profoundly shaped our projects, culture, and populations served.
